    1. Re: [SWEDEN] Emmigration Lookup Please
    2. Carol Larson
    3. I have Swedish relatives who have three and four given names but they often go by the third or fourth name in the order. It becomes confusing to keep track of it. Do Swedens ever change the name order? Carol in Kentucky PS in the South I understand that is called a "stacked name" like Donald Robert or Billy Bob. -----Original Message----- From: Bo Johansson <[email protected]> To: sweden <[email protected]> Sent: Sat, Jun 28, 2014 12:30 pm Subject: Re: [SWEDEN] Emmigration Lookup Please Brian Schwerkolt wrote 2014-06-28 16:15: > > I am a bit confused, mostly because I have not dealt with patronymics > before. > I can see how Maja Greta ( I am assuming that"s her first and middle name) > could be heard as Margreta. Swedes didn't (and don't) have the concept of middle name. A person could have one or more given names (first names), and one or more surnames (last names). For example Lars Anders Eriksson Strandberg, where: Lars Anders = two given names Eriksson = patronymic surname (Erik's son) Strandberg = non-patronymic surname See: http://web.comhem.se/~u31263678/genealogy/Names.pdf // Bo Johansson ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
