    1. [SWEDEN] Querying military organisation in Malmö pre 1790

    3. Is anyone on this list familiar with army regiments centred in or around Malmö please? I am trying to determine if an ancestor, Jöns LIND (patronym not known) was a member of an army company at times between 1765 and 1790. Here's what I know. In the baptism record of his second son (1781, Biörckery, Hörja, Kristianstads län), Nils, he was described as a krämare of Malmö. In the moving in record from Finja to Farstorp in 1783, he was described as a soldat. In the baptism record of his daughter (1785, Farstorp) he was described as an afskedad soldat. In the 1783 tax roll for Farstorp his wife is listed (Afs Soldat LIND hy barn), and for him there is a notation 'm I tienst uti? Malmö', suggesting that he was in service in Malmö and not discharged. In the 1784 tax roll for Farstorp the notation was 'Soldat i tjänst'. In the 1785 tax roll for Farstorp the notation was 'm i tienst'. In the 1786 tax roll for Farstorp the family is not present. In the 1787 tax roll for Farstorp the family is not present. In the 1788 tax roll for Farstorp the family is not present. In the 1789 tax roll for Farstorp the notation is 'm i tjänst'. In the 1790 tax roll for Farstorp the entry is 'D? Soldat Enkan Lisa' with 4 children under 15. The above perhaps suggests that Jöns might have been a soldier in a Malmö regiment, was discharged and became a merchant for a time, and then went back into service in Malmö. He might have died in the 1788-1790 wars, perhaps late in 1789 or early in 1790. All efforts to locate his burial have so far failed. If he did die as part of the wars, he could have been buried anywhere, including Finland I suppose. I have paged through the Generalmönsterrullor-Bergsregementet (Yngre) och dess föregångare 1431 (1770-1770) and 1437 (1786-1786) and not found any mention of him. But I have no idea if these books could contain him or not. There might be others for Malmö, possibly not yet digitised. Or his service periods might fall within the muster roll gaps. It would help a lot of anyone had suggestions of other records for Malmö. I don't find Jöns in the Soldier's Central Register at www.ep.liu.se. I do believe that my best chance of finding anything on this ancestor might be via military archives, whether they are muster rolls, enlistment papers, or discharge papers. They might give me an idea of where he was born (he says 1747 but not where). Thanks Kevin
