It was not automatic that the children would "inherit" their father's non-patronymic surname. Some could choose to use the patronymic (their father's given name + son/dotter) instead, in this case Persson/Petersson or Persdotter/Petersdotter. This was around the end of the 19th century, when the surname customs were changing, and in some families both sons and daughter would use the same (male) version of the name, in this case Petersson. It is not a case that their name was changed from Mobäck to Petersson, this is the first time they are recorded with surnames, see the previous household records in: Egby AIIa:1 (1897-1936) Image 460 / page 36 (AID: v173381.b460.s36, NAD: SE/VALA/00069). and: Egby AI:4 (1872-1896) Image 27 / page 22 (AID: v21933.b27.s22, NAD: SE/VALA/00069) BTW, the widow is recorded as "Kristina Karolina Mobäck f. Larsson", because she was a widow named "Kristina Karolina Mobäck", and her "maiden name" was Larsson. In previous records she was wife "Kristina Karolina Larsson". // Bo Johansson
