He was born about the correct time, used the surname Hallgren, and went missing at about the right time to get to Australia in time. It was not unusual for emigrants to hide their illegitimate status by inventing a father with at least the same surname. Notice that sailors often are missing in the emigration databases, because they often did not emigrate as passengers, but just left their ships in foreign ports. Alternatively, your Charles Frederick Hallgren might have taken the surname Hallgren after emigrating, it was not unusual for Swedes to change to a non-patronymic surname when they emigrated. // Bo Johansson
