Debbie, I can answer your last question. The question marks in those words stand for Swedish letters that are not in our alphabet. Some programs don't recognize those letters and replace them with a question mark. That happens to people on the digest version of the list. People getting every message as they are written aren't likely to see all those html markings. The source material did not have those markings. There were some letters following z in the Swedish alphabet which has 29 letters and the digest can't handle them. Brutus and Brutius are NOT common, but you never told us when she was born. You did have that information. It is VERY easy to misread scribbled numbers. The priest writing these records and the transcriber could easily have made an error, and perhaps the same error happened in your family too. This is very close, plus the destination is the same and the name is uncommon.
