HI Bo Thanks very much for your input, suggestions and help. I will see what else comes up for Karl but as you say it looks quite possible that he is the son of Brita HALLGREN. Probably just stayed here (jumped ship). There were other Hallgrens in Victoria, one John Frederick HALLGREN married an Ada Lamard, so maybe distant relatives, cousins who knows. Thanks very much kind regards Dianna -----Original Message----- From: Bo Johansson via Sent: Saturday, August 22, 2015 1:02 AM To: sweden@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [SWEDEN] Karl F Hallgren Den 2015-08-21 kl. 07:20, skrev dianna charles: > > HI Bo Thanks for that all very confusing really. Thanks anyway can't seem to get anywhere really. Regards > Dianna It seems reasonably likely that the Carl Fredrik Hallgren born 1869-11-19 in Söderhamn is your Charles Frederick Hallgren. He was born about the correct time, used the surname Hallgren, and went missing at about the right time to get to Australia in time. It was not unusual for emigrants to hide their illegitimate status by inventing a father with at least the same surname. Notice that sailors often are missing in the emigration databases, because they often did not emigrate as passengers, but just left their ships in foreign ports. Alternatively, your Charles Frederick Hallgren might have taken the surname Hallgren after emigrating, it was not unusual for Swedes to change to a non-patronymic surname when they emigrated. // Bo Johansson To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to SWEDEN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' (without the quotes) in the subject and the body of the message.
