1. [SWEDEN] Seeking info on Petter Andersson Örn (Ohrn) and family
2. D Brundige via
3. My name is Diane and I am new to this list. I am looking for information on my grandfather's family. All dates and places are written as I found them on notes written by my grandfather and his mother. His father was Johan Severin (Örn) Ohrn. He was born in Alnö, Medelpad, Sundsval in 1891. He immigrated to the US in 1910 and married Esther Emelia Nylander in 1913 in Moline, IL. His brother Nyort (born 1894) was killed in WWI and is buried in France. His brother Anders Patrus (born 1889) was lost at sea. Two different family notes give 2 different dates. One say lost 2 sept 1914 syda afrika and the other says lost Cape Town, South Africa 1917. (I tried checking ship wrecks but am totally lost on how to find info on his death). His sister Anna Albertina (born 1887) was in the US in 1913 and I believe she stayed in Moline, IL and married Carl Anderson. He had twin sisters Gerta and Göta born 1897 . Gerta died at 7 months old. Gota is the only sibling whose surname was written Petterson. Everyone else was Örn or Ohrn. I was able to find christening records for all siblings but Anders Patrus. Their father was Petter Anderson Örn. One set of notes says born 25 March 1850 in Strand, Alnö, Varmland and died 23 May 1927 in Doleland Åminskog. Another set of my grandfather's notes says PETTER OHRN (AMINSKOG FODD 25 MARS 1850 (DOLELAND) AMINSKOG DOD 23 MAJ 1927 Their mother was Anna Sophia Abrahamsson born 17 June 1857 in what looks like In Nõ Ipes, Finland and died 1934. (Her first husband was Michal Kock). Their tombstones simply say H. V. P. ÖRN STRAND *1850 +1927 ANNA ÖHRN G: BERG 1857 1934 I looked through microfilm from the LDS church and did not find a marriage. My grandfather went to Sweden in 1971 and visited family and went to the cemeteries and the old homestead. I found his notes. And I have a photo of them! I am also searching for the Nylander family, but I will write about them in a separate post. I would appreciate any advice on where to look for records, or even what types of records are available. Thank you, Diane

3. Diane, I have benefited from the assistance of this Sweden email list many times. I usually read the posts just to learn more about research on Swedes. All of my Swedish ancestors ended up in Moline, IL. so that line caught my attention. Here are things I found on Ancestry.com. searching under her married name. Anna Albertina Anderson filed a "passport application" on March 15, 1920. She states she was born in Sweden on March 29, 1887. On the 2nd page you will find a picture of herself and her 2 daughters that apparently returned to Sweden to visit. They were Margit, born May 1, 1915 and Lina born Dec 14, 1917. They were boarding the Stockholm on May 1, 1920. And she is found in the 1940 U.S. Census in Moline, IL. under the name Albertina A Anderson, age 53, along with her husband Carl C Anderson, age 54, daughter Margit V Anderson, age 24 and daughter Linnea M Anderson, age 22. Also, I have copied this link that most probably is the gravestone of your ancestor and her husband. It shows her death November 25, 1973. Her husband died in 1964. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=35768939&ref=acom I hope this is helpful.
