    1. [SWEDEN] Immigration allotments
    2. Carol Whitley Larson via
    3. We were having where did you come from discussion. And one of the group said that there were allotments for the number of Europeans that could come into the country in the 1880s to early 1900s. I followed many Swedes who came to America during this time and I have not been aware of any quota for Scandinavians. Can someone on the list enlighten me or clarify this for me. Thanks so much, Carol from Kentucky

    3. Hi Peter Yes, I agree. Seems he moved about a lot. Sweden, Denmark, Norway. Just tracked his younger brother Pehr (f. 6 Jan 1855) from Farstorp to Sölvesborg in 1870, then he goes elsewhere in 1875 (too faint for me to read). Older brother Olof (f. 15 Jul 1848) also left Farstorp when young. Appreciate your intervention. Are you able to tell if Nils emigrated with other persons? 3. Thanks Judy, I've not see that before. It might be that he went to Copenhagen at some point. I have followed his mother through the census and congregation records, and in Farstorp AII:1 (1896-1910) Image 550 / Page 43 (AID: v98269a.b550.s43) his name appears in a comment on line 18, to do with a foster-daughter Ellen Ohlsson. It appears she was born in Copenhagen but baptised in Hästveda on 2 Jun 1902. Sadly that parish's scanned birth and christening records end before 1902, so I can't double-check the names of the parents. But Nils Olsson and his wife Karin Karlsson might be they. It appears she was born in Copenhagen but baptised in Hästveda on 2 Jun 1902. Sadly that parish's scanned birth and christening records end before 1902, so I can't double-check the names of the parents. But Nils Olsson and his wife Karin Karlsson might be they. 1. [SWEDEN] Viking skeleton goes on display in York

    3. Viking skeleton goes on display in York - BBC News http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-34981566?ref=yfp Several photos included. I found it interesting, but then these old archaeological digs are fascinating to me, and there seem to be a lot of them where Vikings settled in the British Isles if the number of BBC documentary shows on YouTube are any indication. If they do DNA testing, it would be interesting to find out if she was a native Briton who happened to be living at York for whatever reason, or if she came with Vikings from Norway, Denmark, or Sweden. 3. Thanks, Bev. I'm with you in finding the digs fascinating. This one is so much more fascinating due to the Viking link. Thanks Bo. I could see all the movements in and out, and knowing the purpose of the special list of missing persons helps to make sense of what is going on. I've seen the page in an earlier census as well. Quite a clever idea. Regards Kevin
