But I don't see a Bäck Löjtnantsgård in the placename index of AI:5 1775-1787 or AI:6 1806-1814. Hi, My great aunt, Kristina Otillia Köhl, came to the U.S. in 1928 with her husband. I have that information plus the passenger manifest listing them. In the process of looking for her in the 1940 US Census I was unable to locate her. I knew she lived in California as she died there in 1968. In the process of updating information on her son who stayed in Sweden, I discovered that she returned to Sweden in 1937. Following her in the HFL I discovered that she was still in Hässjö Västenorrland in 1941. In the meantime I found the US Naturalization Index card for her which shows that she became a naturalized citizen of the US in 1954. I have looked at the moving out records for Hässjö from 1941 thru 1945 and could not find a moving out record for her. Is it possible that there might be an emigration listing for her sometime between 1945 and 1950? Any help is greatly appreciated. Naomi in Illinois

I found the family with the step-father living at Skrivaregården in the HFL for Vartofta-Åsaka AI:3 (1799-1812) Image 93/page 177. As I go blind from staring at the screen too long, I am beginning to be able to match the handwritten place names with the typed names in the indexes. Every place except the birth record gives Maria's birth date as September 15th 1793. On the birth record it says the 17th. Which would you think is correct? She was christened on the 19th. Hi I know this probably has been address but I can not find it in the archives. Is this right Sweden is 6 hours ahead of US? I'm trying to figure when AD ends for me in Eastern Standard time (EST). 6pm my time would be 12am Sweden time means free time on Ad ends? Can't think right now trying to get as much stuff done before AD ends so your help is appreciated. Diane
Continuing with this family, I found Maria with her mother and stepfather in HFLs back to 1813. I couldn't find them in the previous one so I started in that year looking for marriages. I found a marriage that matched for Jöns And. age 30 and Maria And. age 44 in 1809 27/12 . (Vartofta-Åsaka EI:1 (1764-1849) Image 35/page 59) She was a widow and the ages seem to fit. I then looked for a death record for Nils Andersson and found one in 1805 21/5. (Vartofta-Åsaka CI:4 (1764-1849) Image 165.page 317) It gave his age as 43 and his residence as Stenhusgl. I found what I think is the family in that place in the HFL in Vartofta-Åsaka AI:3 (1799-1812) Image 87/page 165. It says he did in 1805. the only problem is that it looks like the name is Nils Svens, born in Sandhem in 1762. Thank you, Bo. I found her on page 84, but she was alone. I think she is my ancestor's sister. I also found the couple and a daughter in the HFL in Direkullen of Högstena parish and her birth date and place matched the person I was looking for. In the household records for Gestad AI:14 (1842-1846) Image 245 p 236 it says Filemon Hindriksson was born in Bolstad. Also in household records Gestad AI:15 (1846-1851) Image 294 p 285 it says Bolstad. [records in AI:6-AI:13 did not list birth place] I can not find him in birth records in Bolstad, Gestad, Grinstad or Erikstad--does anyone have an idea where else to look? In household records for Gestad AI:6 (1796-1803) Image 213 p 202, Philemon Hindriksson 1775 is the fourth entry (and crossed out). He is then the sixth entry with his wife and daughter (they were married in Gestad 15 Nov 1800; Gestad marriages E:1 1763-1840 p 153). On this entry, it says that Filemon moved in here in 1801 from Torp. I searched Torpane in this parish and he was not listed. I searched Torp and Torpa in Alvsborg for the years covering 1801 and he is not listed. Since he is listed in the fourth entry and not as having moved in, I searched Gestad AI:5 (1787-1785) and he is not listed anywhere in this record either. The only Hindriksson's I found that were in the right time frame (Hindrik Jacobsson and Hindrik Hindriksson) were followed through and are definitely not his family). Does anyone have an idea where to search next? Thank you. Jean Anderson
I need help with another marriage. What is the groom's position, where did the bride live and what does it say about them in the first column on the right-hand page? When it gives a page number for the HFL, is that only if it is in the same parish? I notice that there is no page number for the groom in several entries. Thank you. Annette
Bo, Again I thank you. The reference you gave me to the HFL gave me the mother's date of death as well as her date and place of birth. I love Swedish records!
