I just looked a Wiki and found Obestämd is a Swedish word - indefinite. But it has an arrow north of Stockholm but not as an indication of town - pointing toward the water,:} Hope this helps Barbara in MA ----- Original Message ----- From: Brian Eberling <eberling@gmail.com> To: sweden@rootsweb.com Sent: Wed, 05 Dec 2012 23:29:20 -0000 (UTC) Subject: Re: [SWEDEN] Where did the Walender family move to? Hello, I'm trying to locate Johan Henrik Henricksson's (B; 21 March 1853, Sörby, Landeryd församling) immigration information. Below is the move in/out record for him in Vårdsbergs Parish. Johan Henrik Henriksson, Sweden, Östergötland Church Records, 1555-1911; index 1616-1860, Vårdsbergs församling B I Inflyttningslängder 1, 1835-1882. Omfattar 1835-1860, 1866-11-09--1882. 1881-Image 117 of 122, line 5 Seems he left in April of 1881 for North America. I was hoping to locate him in the United States (or elsewhere?) but seem to be having a tough time with this. -- Thanks, Henry
Thank you Barbara for both of your responses. I don't think they were "lost at sea" as one of the sons emigrated to the U.S. in 1897. I will just have to hunt for them - this is not the first time I had to hunt for a family. I am trying to figure out to where the Nils Johansson Walendar family moved. To me it looks like Obestamd but I cannot find any place by that name - so I must be reading the location incorrectly, I need help. The family is the first family listed at Visseltofta AI:11 (1873-1878) Image 198 / page 223 (AID: v101833.b198.s223, NAD: SE/LLA/13456) Needless to say, any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you Naomi. I just couldn't figure it out and I read his age as 52 and not 59. Maybe I need new glasses? I am also from Illinois, presently living in Colorado. Thanks again. The normal way was to take a feeder ship from Sweden or Norway to Hull, which is on the east coast of England, and then a train across England to Liverpool. A feeder ship directly to Liverpool would have to make a long extra lourney either around Scotland, or around England through the English channel.. Here is a link to a brief history of the Great Central Railway: http://www.exodus2013.co.uk/tag/great-central-railway/ There used to be a great site developed by Chris Tolley: Great Central Railway and Migration from Europe to North America, but I can't.find it. Maybe another List member can help.
