Jim, Johan Gustaf was born 15 March 1848 and baptised the same day in Svenarum parish. His parents were Sven Johannesson and Helena Stina Gustafsdotter. John, There is an Old Portraits Database on http://www.genealogi.se/roots/ It lists for each landskap the photographers that took portraits that people have submitted to this database. You could look through each to see if you can find your photographer's name. Of course it is possible that no one has submitted any portraits by him, but it might be worth looking. I found listings for the photographers who had taken photos of my great grandmother & her mother. John, You didn't say what year your Carl John Emigrated or if he was married at that time. Also have you checked if he was a member of one of the local churches ~ many times those membership records will list where they were born. Also, might your Carl John's birth date be his baptism date? If so, here is a possible person listed on the Emibas CD Info from the Swedish Emibas CD Post 367790 Johansson, Carl Johan Arbetare (unmarried man) b. 5/20/1847 in Karlshamn, Blekinge län (Blekinge) Emigrated 7/16/1873 from Särskild Förteckn.Litt J, Karlshamn, Blekinge län (Blekinge) to Bornholm amt, Danmark Source: Household Examination Roll, p. 1566 Emibas migration file ID: Karlshamn K 1873 027 Un-normalized versions: Place of destination: Bornholm Country of destination: Danmark Dee from MN -----Original Message----- From: sweden-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:sweden-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of John Bloom Sent: Monday, December 17, 2012 3:21 PM To: Swedish Look Ups Subject: [SWEDEN] Photographers in Sweden - Late 1840's Today I was looking through a box of old family documents and I came across a picture of a small infant. On the back cover of this photo, someone wrote "Carl John Bloom". I have searched unsuccessfully for years to determine where my great grandfather, Carl John Bloom, born 22 May 1847 came from in Sweden. The picture is on paper. I believe photography in Europe commonly used paper at this time. The photographer's name or business name is embossed on the photo. It is "Philleo". I was curious if anyone on the mailing list has seen pictures from this photographer. If so, do you know the location of the photographer or even the location of an ancestor who had a picture taken by this photographer. Thanks for any and all comments.
