    1. Re: [SWEDEN] what is a "dagakarl"?
    2. Hi Naomi, Thanks for the answer. It is definitely written "dagakarl" with an "a" in the middle. I thought it might be "dagskarl" but it really, really looks more like an "a" than an "s" in the middle. So, does that make a difference (it isn't "dagkarl")? Thanks, Nina -----Original Message----- From: Naomi Swanson <[email protected]> To: sweden <[email protected]> Sent: Thu, Jun 5, 2014 8:56 am Subject: Re: [SWEDEN] what is a "dagakarl"? I was thinking this might be a day worker, but I looked up a translation and Interglot says a "dagakarl" is a man who puts a person to death. (!) I count 5 Dagakarlar in Trödje uthedes 1. 3. It does look like "sjukv.korp.", so he had probably been a Medic Corporal, presumably at Lifgardet till Häst in Stockholm, where he came from 1910-11-08. He was registered in the Malmö sjömanshus (~seamens registry), and was moved to the missing persons book 1914(?) (as number 245?). It seems it means page 245 (line 22) in the missing persons book, Malmö Sankt Johannes AIII:1 (1909-1929) Image 2220 / page 245 (AID: v265822.b2220.s245, NAD: SE/MSA/00617). Both "Malmö sjömanshus" and his conscription information are crossed out, so he was probably no longer known to the "sjömanshus". Arkivdigital has records for "Sjömanshuset i Malmö"... // Bo Johansson Lois Casson wrote 2014-06-05 05:46: > > Nils is not a snickare. 3. Hi Mary, I checked the death record with just a last name and death date. I couldn't match any locations so there is no way to know who her husband might have been. There were 24 yrs between their deaths so she likely moved from where she was living in 1954. Malmö Sankt Johannes has a lot of later records, a lot of parish vital records end before 1900.
