    1. Re: [SWEDEN] how did Olof Ersson die in 1783?
    2. Thanks, Bo, that is greatly helpful. I see now how the "C" I was reading must be a "T" for torpare. I did read the following in Wikipedia under "Sweden--United States Relations": "Swedish–American relations reach back to the days of the American Revolutionary War. The Kingdom of Sweden was the first country not formally engaged in the conflict (though thousands of Swedish volunteers partook on the side of the patriots) to recognize the United States of America following the Treaty of Paris, in which Sweden was a party. The Treaty of Amity and Commerce was signed subsequently in 1784 between Benjamin Franklin and Swedish representative Gustaf Philip Creutz." Would be interesting to know about those volunteers-- but I guess they were not in the Swedish military.... 3. Some laptops do not allow the type special characters when holding down the alt key. So here are some great methods to type the special characters. One method is to type charmap in the run window in windows. This pops up a keyboard that allows you to copy a character. Then paste the character in your document. Another easy way to write the special characters is to us the keyboard available in google translate. Just choose Swedish, hit the keyboard icon in the lower left corner and you can easily type Swedish special character. Then select the word , right click on top and choose copy. 1. [SWEDEN] how did Olof Ersson die in 1783?
    2. Hi, There is a death entry for Corporal Olof Ersson, born 1751, at Hille C:3 (1779-1823) Bild 153 / sid 13 (AID: v135527.b153.s13, NAD: SE/HLA/1010072). Under his birth date there are the numbers 32, 20 dr -- does this have to do with the military? (It mentions he is a Corporal at Hille AI:4a (1778-1787) Bild 12 / sid 6 (AID:v135488.b12.s6, NAD: SE/HLA/1010072).) In the last column of the first reference (death record) it says: Gift 1779 d. 14 October med ?? dott. Brita Jonsdotter i Tröjde. ?? en Son. ???. ???? ???, dog ???(hederligt?) för moderland(?) i ??? ???. Since he died in 1783, I am guessing he might have been participating in the US Revolutionary War and the second-to-last word might be something about the Colonies or Colonial war. Thank you very much for any help with those difficult words. Best, Nina

Also, there is a >> date in the 1837 column. Did she come back or was she there >> all along? OK, found at Grytgöl in Hällestad AI:20 (1832-1837) Image 94 / page 174 (AID: v26089.b94.s174, NAD: SE/VALA/00153), handwritten page 87). The remark is "Ej tagit ut besked" (not received certificate), and the moving-out column has Regna(?) 1836. But as you mentioned, there is a date 21/5 for 1837, so perhaps you will have to look for her both here at Grytgöl in Hällestad parish (in the next households volume), and in Regna parish. // Bo Johansson

What was her cause of death? There is no cause recorded for any deaths on this page. The underlined "Upl. hjon" is for "upplöst hjonelag", that is a marriage had been dissolved by this death. // Bo Johansson
