I'm just getting started at this genealogy stuff. I will know much more in the near future with help from other Sweatt family members who are researching our tree. *********************************************************** I am also researching the Sweatts of Alabama. My great, great grandmother was Callie Sweatt born in 1876. Her father was James Sweatt born in 1847. His father was James Sweatt born in 1824. His father was Whittington Sweatt, Jr. Since Whittington was a JR obviously his father was Whittington Sweatt, Sr. I have on birth date or place on either Jr or Sr. Did you find any of these names? Surnames: hamilton, sweet, sweat, sweatt, swett Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/zARBAIB/146 Message Board Post: Good day fellow researchers! I have recently come across a birth certificate, listing Albert M. Sweet as the mother of Thelma Agnes Hamilton, b. 1901, Portland, ME. The father was Fred S. H. (or E.) Hamilton, also born around 1872, at Chebeague Island. A thorough scouring of available online census data, marriage records, etc, has yielded squat on Alberta. Fred connects to the massive Hamilton lines of Chebeague Island, and most of Cumberland County. On the birth certificate for Thelma, her mother is listed as born in Auburn, yet I can find no trace of her, at least as Alberta! Is there any Swett, etc researcher who may be able to point me in the right direction? Or, anyone in the Auburn area who has access to vital records for that city/town, back in the early 1870's? As the census record for 1910 indicates, this was Alberta's first marriage, so, for the most part, I've eliminated consideration of Sweet, etc, being a married name. However, we all know census records are far from absolute. Anyway, looking forward to corresponding with anyone who might offer possibilities, clues, guesses, even hard evidenciary facts on the origins of this mysterious Alberta. Many Thanks, Jared (Nashua, NH)

I have had 2 children with Nancy E Wilson: Minnie b. 1875 & Walter Houston b. 1879. I don't have any census information, but hope to obtain some soon on the Sweatt family. It is quite possible that my Allen W. had a second marriage to the wife you mentioned & they could have produced Maude. I will continue to search & if I find the link I will let you know. This family is very extensive & I am sure that I am not finished gathering information... Good luck in your search & I will be happy to help if I can.

I have an Allen W Sweatt, b. abt. 1852 in Montgomery Co., and died abt. Sept 1873 in Florida. I have his wife as Nancy E Wilson, but I have found that many of these relatives had several marriages. My Allen Sweatt was the son of James A Sweatt & Martha R Buckelew, and was the grandson of Whittington Sweatt Jr. of S.C. I have at least 4 siblings listed for Allen, but there may be more. My husband is a descendant of James A Sweatt. Does this help? If this is the same line you are looking for, let me know & I can give you the information I have on his family.

I am researching my husband's ancestry. His grandmother is a Sweatt, descended also from Whittington Sweatt, Jr., of South Carolina. I have hit a brick wall as well with Whittington Sweatt. What I have found is Whittington Sweatt Jr. b. 1802 or 1804 in S.C.. Died 12/28/1886? in Alabama...buried in Oakwood Cemetery (Montgomery, AL, I think). First marriage to ?? produced James A. Sweatt, which is the g-g-g-g-g grandfather of my husband. Whittington's second marriage was to Martha Adeline Darley, married 8/21/1851 in Montgomery, AL. Is this the same line you are researching? If so, have you found anything more since you posted this last year?
