I do not know how accurate some of it is as I don't have verification (birth, marriage or death certificates)on a lot of this information. Whittington Sweatt, Sr, b. about 1757, died about 1850. Married Martha ???, b. about 1783, d. about 1850. 2 children, 1.) Whittington, Jr., b. 1802 in SC. Died 1883 in Montgomery AL. 2.) James E. Sweatt My line is through Whittington Jr. Whittington, Jr., was married twice. 1.) Clara 2.) Adeline Darley. Whittington and Adeline had 8 children: James A. Sweatt b. 1824 (again, my line)in Montgomery AL, d. Jan 12, 1896. Married Martha Buckelew. They had 11 children: James Madison Sweatt (my line) b. March 23, 1847 married Christine Cook and they had 5 children: Callie b. 1876 Callie had 3 daughters. There is controversy over who is the father of the three. Ethel Edna Frankie Frankie (my ggrandmother)was born in Greenville AL in 1895 married Bogan McQuage (I have found many different spellings for this surname) and had 6 children. One of her sons was Douglas Glyn, b. May 4, 1916 in Andalusia AL. This was my father's father. I hope this makes sense to you. Her son, Willie Brandon Whittington, is my 80 year old father who found the slip of paper in the bible, which he said was passed down to him, by his mother, Willie Alma Kelly. My ggrandmother, Lillie May Sweatt, spelled her surname as SWEATT......but, all names on the slip of paper were spelled SWETT. Sweatt, age 2 1/2 April 1894" written in pencil on the back.He is posed with a child's play wheelbarrow. The photo was taken in Minneapolis. I believe the handwritting on the back of the photo to belong to my great grandmother Amanda Ostrom. This was in an old family photo album. Upon doing some research I find him to be the son of William Sweatt and Jessie Wilson Sweatt. He married a Mary Buchanan. I would like to place this photo to a family member if they are interested.

I would appreciate any information on Melvin Sweatt. I don't know much, here's what I have: Melvin was in the military in 1917. He was in Company L, 35th Infantry, in Nogales, Arizona. He might have had a relative named Ivy Sweatt that lived on Route #5, Box 72, in Longprairie Minnesota. Melvin might also be from there. This is all I have. Cindy, I have a William Rufus Sweatt(Swet) son of Thomas G(adi?) Sweatt (Swet) and Susan Parker. ThomasG(adi?) son Gadi Sweatt(Swet) and Ellenora Gillespie. Gadi Sweatt(Swet) son of Benjamin Sweatt Swet and Rosa/Rhoda????. I do not know who Benjamin was son of. I descend from Benjamin and Rosa/Rhoda through their son Aaron and Nancy Peavy. Benjamin and Rosa/Rhoda had three known sons Aaron, Gadi, and William K. This info was provided by other researchers and is not documented. So take it as undoncumented leads. Remember this is a work in progress and some or all the info may change. Patsy

Patsy, Here is what I have so far: Ulysses Kelly b. 1884 SC d. 1971 FL. Lillie May (Sweatt) Kelly b. 1883 SC d. abt. 1953 NC Children: Willie Alma Kelly b. abt 1906 m. Wade Hampton Whittington (1st marriage) 1. Kenneth Hampton Whittington b. 1924 2. Willie Brandon Whittington b. 1927 (my father, still living) 3. Arie Alma Smith b. 1930 (by 2nd marriage) Roy Kelly b. 1909 SC Worth Kelly b. 1912 SC Eunice Kelly b. 1915 SC Matha Kelly b. 1917 SC Sometime, probably in the late 1920's Lillie May and Ulysses Kelly moved to Charlotte, NC from probably Chesterfield, SC, and stayed. So far, this is what I do have confirmed by sources. The last name is SWEATT with two "t's". KELLY, is with ONE "e", it is not KELLEY, although some show it with two "e's". And the spelling on ULYSSES is as I have it above, source was from his signature on a WWI registration card. Hope that helps. Cindy Whittington Low
