My mother's maiden name was Sweatt and she grew up in Mitchell county, lots of her family still lived near there. Although most do not live in Mitchell county tx anymnore that is where a large group grew up. Her fathers name was i believe George Tilden Sweatt and Her mother was Ruby and i do not know her maiden name. My grandfather died before i was born and Ruby (my grandma) passed on back in 1987 if i remember correctly. My mother can provide way more info on the sweatts in texas from this area if you would like to email me. I have been in touch with a fellow Whit. searcher, and somehow she found that Whittington is the son of Caleb Sweat, b. abt. 1772. Caleb's parents are John Sweat, b. around 1740, and Elizabeth Graham. Siblings of Whittington: Littleton, b. abt. 1804 in SC William B., b. 1816 in TN, d. Apr 19 1874 in Jackson, Arkansas I also have the following information: John Sweat Sr. - Will signed 23 Jan 1816; proved 7 Jun 1818 in Fairfield Co., SC (Bk 7, pg 227).
