    1. [SWEATT] Re: ALBERT SWEATT'S WIFE & her final resting place.
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Cemetery Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/zARBAIB/121.1.1 Message Board Post: In mid-April, 2002 the near final piece of a 45 year old family mystery arrived in my mail box. The DEATH CERTIFICATE of my Grand-Aunt GOLDA DOUGHERTY SWEATT, widow of ALBERT SWEATT of Owensboro, Ky.. As mentioned before, she had disappeared, & I recently located her info. Her death certificate indicates that she was living in the HODGES REST HOME at 3991 Dalton St., Los Angeles, Ca. at the time of her death. I went to find the place, & discovered that while the building is still there it had become a single family dwelling in the ealy 1970's. Her Certificate told me how she had died (a blood clot to the brain), & MOST IMPORTANTLY, where she had been laid to rest. On the same day I also paid a visit to Queen Of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Rowland Heights, Ca., about 15 miles from where I live, & along a bus route I have taken quite often over the last 30 years. Because she had no known relatives for the rest home to notify, & she was Catholic, the COUNTY arranged for her to be buried in the Charity Section of this Cemetery without a marker. I made an otherwise boring day into an exciting one for a couple of clerks who were able to provide me with the exact spot she was laid, & a gardner, who guided me to it on the grounds. I now know the, relatively cheap, cost of giving her a headstone, & am lining up relatives to join me in paying for it. Come Xmas, GOLDA will have her headstone & proof that her family had not forgotten her. The final piece of the puzzle may never be solved, but I would still like to know the answer if I can find it: Did she go to the LITTLE SISTERS OF THE POOR & did they have anything to do with her ending up in this rest home? With my new info, I will be making another call to the Sisters. :-) Let this be a lesson to my fellow NEWBIES, & to occasionally frustrated Old Timers: Brick Walls CAN be knocked down, with persaverance & a little luck. I have been posting these updates on my quest for the SWEATTS in the hopes that relatives of ALBERT & ALPHONSO, researching into the family past, will see them & contact me. As far as I know ALBERT & GOLDA had no childern, & I know nothing more about ALBERT & ALPHONSO other than when & where they were buried. Before the summer is out I hope to have copies of their Death Certificates, & will know more at that time. Thanks for reading this long post, & good luck to all who have done so your own searches.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Sweat(t), McNeeley Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/zARBAIB/52.71.1.1.2.1 Message Board Post: On 21 March, Wendell wrote: "William Sweatt and his wife are Cherokee Indians. One is full the other half. I don`t know which one is full cherokee. One of their gr son applied for Ckerokee Indian pension in 1905. He states his gr mother Rachel Sweatt is 3/4 cherokee. If you notice in 1850 Campbell Co Census. Rachel Sweet and her husband are living next to William Sweat. Rachel md Hutson (Hudson)." "I would like to exchange info with you. I desc from George and Martha Sweatt thru their daughter Elizabeth Sweatt. Here in Sequatchie Valley we spell Sweatt with two tt." Hello Wendell Sorry about the delay in my response. I am working on the road for next two weeks near Charlotte, NC. My preferred email address is [email protected] But, occasionally on the road, I use my yahoo address which is where i received your message. Yes, I am aware that as early as 1830 census, the neighbors of William Sweat were heads of families with names like Hutson, Ivy, Dannel, and most significantly- the McNeeley families. Indeed, I believe your ancestor, Martha "Patsy" McNeeley, married George Sweat(t). Thank you for letting me know that your generation in the Sequatchie Valley uses the Sweatt version. I have also seen Swet, Sweet, and Sweat. McNeeley has been spelled McNeely, McNealy, as well as McNeeley. My branch of interest in that of William McNeeley who married Mary Sweat. I believe Mary was sister of William Sweat. William McNeeley and Mary Sweat had two children who married into the Sweat family. So, there is several intermarriages between the neighbors of this area of Campbell Co. I do know that William Sweat was living near his sons- William J., Quinton John, and George, And now, as you say, his daughter Rachael (who was married to Hutson). Do you have any marriage date for Rachael Sweat and Hutson? Do you know the fate of their children? DID your ancestor Elizabeth Sweat marry a Walker- what was his full name and when were they married? When did the Sweat persons in your line change the name from Sweat to Sweatt? Also, do you have the full reference for the Cherokee pension applications of 1905. Where are they available for reading? Let's keep in touch and share some family history. Where do you live now? Thanks for your patience, Bob Kramp,
