    3. Christy - I've read about the possibility of the Sweats having some Indian connections. If you study the history of what it took for our Sweat ancestors to travel from the homeland to where they established a homestead here, there's a great possibility that we have some Indian blood. It's all a part of being Southern. It's a most rich heritage. I hope you enjoy what your ancestors wanted to leave behind for you as much as we do. And I hope you take the time to read the history and explore the riches of our past. It's not always pretty, but if you understand the times they lived in, you'll just be amazed. --- lovechoc@bellsouth.net wrote: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to > this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FdQBAEB/288.1.1.1.1.1.2.2 > > Message Board Post: > > oh yea, let me all you guys what i had read in the > indian history books,,""i read everything i can > about indian history to try and understand what has > happen in the past with the indians""..therefore,, > in reading i read that the indians also had a > religoius side which we all know, but they had > celerbrations--with the family or friends or the > tribe to go into what they called """THE SWEAT > HOUSE""", which meant they were in the sweat house > to sweat out all the bad things and bring in the > good things--meaning to get ride of the evil by > sweating it out of our bodies and making our bodies > purfied which is true even today..people go to > saunas to clean their bodies out of the bad and > drink alot of water..which is good for the > bodies...but sometimes i wonder if maybe this is how > the indians came up with this last > name...SWEAT...from the religious side...what do you > think???christy > > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion > online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 3. All Sweat researchers: Has anyone mentioned Melungeon. I recall an article on the Melungeon which referenced a Sweat migration. I can't find the paper right now. I have always thought the Sweat lineage was tied to the Melungeon, a tri-racial group of unknown origin. I suspicion there is some mixed blood in my ancestry and focused on the Melungeon connection. Charity Sweat is my g-grandmother and the daughter of Lydia Miller who was married to Nathan F. Sweat. However; Charity is not the daughter of Nathan so for the time being my Sweat research is on hold............JLJ ----- Original Message ----- From: <lovechoc@bellsouth.net> To: <SWEAT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, April 25, 2002 6:17 PM Subject: [SWEAT] Re: Sweat Indian to Christy or anyone > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FdQBAEB/288.1.1.1.1.1.2.2 > > Message Board Post: > > oh yea, let me all you guys what i had read in the indian history books,,""i read everything i can about indian history to try and understand what has happen in the past with the indians""..therefore,, in reading i read that the indians also had a religoius side which we all know, but they had celerbrations--with the family or friends or the tribe to go into what they called """THE SWEAT HOUSE""", which meant they were in the sweat house to sweat out all the bad things and bring in the good things--meaning to get ride of the evil by sweating it out of our bodies and making our bodies purfied which is true even today..people go to saunas to clean their bodies out of the bad and drink alot of water..which is good for the bodies...but sometimes i wonder if maybe this is how the indians came up with this last name...SWEAT...from the religious side...what do you think???christy > > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > >
