My line is 1) Israel SWEAT, 2) Russell SWEAT, 3) Hiram Perkins SWEAT, 4) Ethelda Rachel SWEAT ROBERTS, 5) Orville Benton ROBERTS, 6) Mercedes ROBERTS GRAHAM, 7)Me! You are not alone in trying to sort out the difference in dates and name regarding Israel Sweat, I have copies of old letters that give Russell SWEAT's history of the family. Probably some of the same information that you have. My g-aunt tried to complete and DAR application and hired several researchers to help her and was not able to straighten out the difference in dates regarding Israel Sweat's birth, possible service in the Revolutionary War, and family tradition. There is a definite possibility that there were two Israel SWEATs in Maine/Mass. during the same time period. They may have been father-son, uncle-nephew, etc. From the dates on the census records and land records, it does not appear that our "grandfather" Israel SWEAT could have been the same "Israel SWEAT" that is listed serving in Revolutionary War in Maine in 1776. I've got a copy of the letter that has the family tale that he lived to be 101, etc. however, it just has not worked out with the other sources. I have no problem with him living to 101 because all of Hiram Perkins SWEATs children that lived until adulthood, died over that age of 80. SWEAT longevity is a well documented fact. My g-aunt died 2 years ago and I have not had access to her records and papers, she was a pack-rat and there are boxes of records that I am going to try to get access in the future, but she lived in another state and I haven't had time. The best documentation that I can recommend is to go to rootsweb. and look at Calvin W. SWEATs database "calsweat". He is very detailed with his records. I think that the solution to the difference in names for Sally/Sarah Russell is that her name was Sarah Ellen and she was nicknamed Sally because her mother's name was also Sarah. However, that is only my intrepretation. Again, I have it listed several different ways in family papers. I look forward to sharing info and ideas with you, and also I am trying to identify early photos of our branch of the SWEAT family, I would like to be able to swap early photos with cousins, as soon as I can get them mounted and scanned. It would also help if I was a little more computer literate. Margaret
