Francis Delaney was my 7th great grandfather. I know that he and his family (sons James and John) arrived in Washington Co (later Greene Co) , NC/TN by 1781 when they are on the tax list. James actually receives a land grant dated Feb 1779 and pays taxes that year in Washington Co for it. I am trying to trace backwards through Va. I have bits and pieces in various areas. I have been looking at related family lines also and their movement from VA to TN. Any help, suggestions greatly appreciated. Renea, In 1845 or so, a Dulaney Burke, and my gg grandfather Zachariah Jones were charged in the murder of one Asa Mathis, of Hancock co, Tn. These Burkes and Jones's lived on Newman's Ridge, which borders Lee co, Va. Zachariah Jones jumped bail and apparently left the state. Dulaney Burke was acquitted. It sure sounds like these two families that you are searching, the Dulaney's and the Burkes, connected with a marriage and produced Dulaney Burke. As for Zachariah Jones, I have not been able to locate where he settled. He possibly changed his name. H is widow and children were still on the 1850 Hancock co census. They disappeared after that, and attempts to locate the sons in the family have not produced any results.
