If you have access to Mary B. Kegley's "Early Adventurers on the Western Waters," in four volumes, you'll find a good deal of information in volumes one and two on this Heavin line. Pat
Pat, Thanks. I had been looking everywhere for my copy of the write-up in Vol. 1. (I found it filed in my wife's Harman file, since that is the article that preceded it.) I was not aware of information in Vol. 2. I will make a note to look for it. Looks like the stories that John, Jr died while incarcerated are true. He was tried as a Tory (along with his sons and several others) in Aug 1780 and by Nov 1780, the county appointed someone else to take over his dutues for repairing the roads, as he was dec'd. However, people apparently did not hold a grudge, since my ancestor Isaac Stephens (who fought in the Continental army and lost family) married John's daughter Rebecca in 1782.
