    2. RE: Creeks of Wash. Co. land Survey book 3/24/99 3:37:42 PM Eastern Standard Time from Edgar A. Howard, he wrote: > These are the CREEKS mentioned in the Wash. Co. land grant Survey book. > *means I don't know where it is. The following are possible locations for some of the CREEKS he listed. I say possible due to the misspellings often found in old documents. 1) *Cabbin Creek, waters of the north fork of Holstein A Cabin Creek starts abt. 1 mile east of Greendale, Scott Co., and flows north following State Rd. 684 to North Fork of Holston River. 2) *Martins Creek, north branch of Powells A Martin Creek starts at Rose Hill, which is located on US 58 in Lee Co., and flows south into the Powell River just over the TN state line. 3) *Shavers Creek on Powell river A Shafer Creek in Lee Co. follows State Rd. 644 then State Rd. 640 to Collier Mill on the Powell River. 4) *Trading Creek in Powells Valley In Lee Co, near the KY state line and about halfway between Hubbard Springs and Hockett, a Trading Creek on State Rd. 656 merges with Sugar Run Creek and becomes Dry Run Creek that flows to Powell River. 5) *Carlocks Creek Middle Fork A Carlock Creek starts abt. 4 miles west of Seven Mile Ford, Smythe [today] Co. and follows State Rd. 617 and 637 to the Middle Fork of the Holston River at Chilhowie, Smythe Co. 6) *Caney Creek In Lee Co. there is a Cane Creek from Ben Hur to Pennington Gap on Alt. US 58. 7) *Yellow Creek In the southwestern part of Lee Co., near the TN border, there is a Yellow Creek and a Little Yellow Creek with both flowing into the Powell River near Wilson Hill, Lee Co. 8) *Obey's and Plank Camp Creeks of Copper Obey's Creek starts abt. 3 miles east of Ft. Blackmore, Scott Co., in Copper Ridge near a junction of State Rd. 660 and 661 flowing south abt. 6 miles and merges with Copper Creek at the junction of State Rd. 72 and 627. Plank Camp Creek starts abt. 2 miles southeast of Starnes Slant, Scott Co., and flows southeast abt. 4 miles going past the community of Apple Valley and through the Copper Creek Knobs and then merges with Copper Creek near a junction of State Rd. 627 and 619. 9) *greasy creek, a north branch of Copper Maybe this is a misspelling of Grassy Creek in Scott Co.? 10) *Possom Creek, a branch of the north fork of Holstein A slight possibility this could be the Possom Jaw Creek that starts near the Bland Co. line and follows State Rd. 42 into Smythe Co. and then into the North Fork of the Holston River.
