    3. According to TAZEWELL COUNTY HERITAGE VOL.1 Asberry School was a one room school house located on the southside of Clinch Mountain where routes 601 and 16 connect. It was built around 1885. Mitchell School built around 1902 was located about two miles west of Rt. 16 beside of Rt. 106. It started out as a one room school but it had another room added. Bandy Elementary School was located in Sinking Waters. Baptist Valley School - from the early 1900's til 1923 there were two - both one room schools called West Baptist and East Baptist. A new school was built in 1922. There was also a Baptist Valley Two Year High School from 1930 -1950. Barns School was the first school in Tazewell County and was located in the cove. It was built by and was on land owned by early settle Robert Barnes. Beechfork School was located between Bandy and Amonate. Benbow High School was a two story weatherboarded building located in the upper end of Thompson Valley. Bishop-Graded School built 1931 near the foot of Big Stony Ridge. Bluestone School was built in the 1920's. It was located on the Bluefield Tazewell Rd. Burkes Garden High School was built in 1915. Burkes Garden Elementary School was erected in 1961 in the old high school site. Cedar Bluff High School located on Jones Chapel Rd. Cliffield elementary located at Cliffield was built in the 1900's. In 1952 a new school was built between Cliffield and Maxwell. Cove Creek School - 1st before 1890 a mile above the Bland County Line; 2nd - on Rt. 61 constructed in 1925 at the entrance to the Cove Rd. which crosses East River Mountain to Bluefield Va. Cove Elementary School - 1st built around 1920 2nd built in 1954 both located near Liberty. Crocketts Cove School - located at Stony Ridge. Was replaced by the Bishop School. Doran School - located in Doran - held in the Miles Chapel Church. Horsepen Cove - located on the Virginia West Va border. Laurel Braanch School was located abt one mile east of the Tannersville Post Office. Laurel Creek School was located about one mile up Laurel Creek near Bandy. Logan Street School located atop a hill overlooking downtown Bluefield. Pisgah School was located on old Rt. 460 between Frog Level and Crab Orchard Museum (near the new 460). Ravens Nest Branch School was located about three miles from Cedar Bluff taking highway 631 and turning left on 626 about one mile. Red Ash Elementary School was off old route 460 in Red Ash in a bottom on the other side of the railroad tracks. Rhudy School was in Burkes Garden. Rivermont Elementary School was on Dry Fork (Rt. 637) Sluss School was located in Upper Mudfork. St. Clair School was located in Tazewell on what is now the Old Fincastle Turnpike. Steelsburg School located just off route 19 about a mile West of Claypool Hill. Some articles mention the teachers or principals, the dates when they were open, etc. There is another part in the book about schools that are open now as well as a section about private schools. These schools I have mentioned are no longer in use.
