    1. [SW_VA] Hobbs of Russell County
    2. Aaaurgh! Now I remember why I keep putting this mystery aside. So many Hobbs, so little time. I spent the evening going through all my information and found other tidbits to support the info you folks sent, but still nothing to say with certainty who Noah's parents were. The people who seem to have moved to all the same locations as Noah are Robert, Solomon, James Sr., and James Hobbs Jr. They were in Indiana and then some even moved to Missouri. I think it doubtful that Solomon and Winofred ( Winifred?) Hobbs were close relatives because they stayed on in Russell County when the rest left. Maybe distant kin. Genie, you are correct, the Samuel Alley family and my Hobbs are related. Several of the children married including: Azby Caroline Alley to Noah R. Hobbs Sampson Alley to Lucretia Hobbs Jane Alley to John Hobbs I think there were more....... G. Lee, you mentioned your ancestor, Robert Pippin, was married to a Reynolds and came to Russell co. 1795-1797 period. Also, your Pippin family line moved over to Washington Co., Va. near where some of the Hobbs family lived, and still live, in Rich Valley. I found a deed dated 5 October, 1805 where James and Rachel (Reynolds) Hobbs sold 62 acres on Carrs Creek to Robert Pippin. Perhaps Rachel and Mrs. Pippin were related. There were Reynolds and McReynolds listed in the tax rolls and census. Eddie, you asked what nationality Hobbs was. We were always told they were English. To compound the problem we were also told that the Hobbs family was a cousin to the Lees of Virginia....which I certainly haven't verified! A funny story about two of the DAR aunties ( through Samuel Alley) was that they set out to prove they were related to a wealthy man named Lee who died in Chicago in the later 1800s. When there was no further news family members questioned what had happened. It seems the gentleman was of a different nationality and those two old bigoted babes dropped their claim like a hot potato! Gee if only I were to win a week's stay in S.W. Viriginia......... Carol
