Uncle Willis had a little Mom and Pop store down the hill from where we lived on Haddon Street. This is where we got our candies, and other assorted junk food to carry up in East Hill Cemetery and have our picnics and play when we were kids. I remember 2 for a penny candy and pop for a nickle,so were candy bars. Mama would send us down to Uncle Willis's store to buy a nickels worth of bolonga, if he cut it thick you got 5 slices, and if he cut it thin, you got 10 or more slices. Uncle Willis must have give credit to everybody in the family, plus all the goodies he handed out to us kids. Uncle Willis and his little store is one of my fondest childhood memories. He made sandwiches for the workers at the Bristol Door, a nickel for a little sandwich or a dime for a big sandwich and he give credit to lots of folks. He wrecked a car hauling moonshine, it flipped several times and he was crippled used a cane. At the top of Hadon Street was Tom Merrit's little store, he wasn't kin to us, but he was good to all us kids that lived there on the hill and like Uncle Willis gave us goodies to haul off to East Hill to have picnics and play. He use to give me pie tins and little coke bottles from the store vendors so I could play house with them. I wish I had kept those lil coke bottles, they'd be worth a lot of money now! They were miniture bottles and the stuff in them moved when you tilted the bottle.
