Hi all, Just wondering if any of you are researching the HENNINGER lines in Southwest Va. There are quite a few (even today) in Tazewell Co. and they keep popping up in my family in different lines. William H. LEWIS b. 9 Feb. 1830 in Tazewell son of John LEWIS and Mary "Polly" HENNINGER b. abt. 1796 in Tazewell Co. daughter of John Jacob HENNINGER b. abt 1761 and Sally STARNS b. abt. 1766 (the source of this is John Henninger's will in Tazewell Co. which lists Polly, mother of William & Lewisa). I also have a Susannah N. KIMBEL/KIMBLE b. abt. 1796 married to William HENNINGER Susannah is daugher of Wiley E. KIMBLE b. abt. 1760/1770 in Va. Susannah & William moved to Monroe Co. Missouri with her brother Luke KIMBLE I have also found that John Taylor Henninger who helped settle the Mormon community in Alberta, Canada did good deal of temple work for my Kimble line. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone with HENNINGER connections. I have more information on the older lines. I also have access to a couple of books on the Henninger line. Thanks, Alana Kimbel Considine *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Alana & Marc Considine <beeswing@inconnect.com> http://www.inconnect.com/~beeswing

Margie, These are the Phelps in my family. Virginia Jones' first husband was Floyd Moore. I am decended from their daughter Venie Moore my gr grandmother who married James Edward South. Descendants of W. Sam Phelps Generation No. 1 1. W. SAM1 PHELPS was born 1859, and died 1931. He married VIRGINIA JONES December 06, 1883 in Sullivan County, TN. Notes for VIRGINIA JONES: In the South and the Carrier families the story of Jennie Moore was that Venie and Ed were born out of wedlock and took their mother's name Moore. It was said that Jennie came from Saltville, VA. According to Jack Cross, who Louella Burnette verifies that he is descended from our Ed Moore, she was a Jones and married Floyd Moore. I talked with Louella today 12/26/1998 and she is still not convinced that Jennie is a Jones. She is burried in Ordway Cemetary as Jane Wife of Samuel Phelps 1857-1931. Her nickname Jennie probably came from Virginia and Jane may have been one of her names. Somewhere I got a name of Mary Jane but I don't remember where I got it from. Jack Cross has her name as Virginia Jones and I have her name as Jennie Moore. I'll go with Virginia Jones for now until there is recorded proof of her name which may be Mary Jane Jones. Marriage Notes for W. PHELPS and VIRGINIA JONES: 6/13/97 Found W.S. Phelps and Jennie Moore licensed 6 Dec., 1883 but not recorded. I believe this to be a record of their marriage. Children of W. PHELPS and VIRGINIA JONES are: i. CHARLES2 PHELPS, m. KATHY BABB. 2. ii. WILLIAM HENRY PHELPS. 3. iii. JOSEPH ROBERT SR. PHELPS, b. 1892; d. 1959. Generation No. 2 2. WILLIAM HENRY2 PHELPS (W. SAM1). He married ALICE K. SMITH July 02, 1906 in Sullivan County, TN. Marriage Notes for WILLIAM PHELPS and ALICE SMITH: 6/13/97 Found William H. Phelps and Alice K. Smith recorded 2 July, 1906. I believe this to be a record of their marriage. The bondsman was J.C. Cross. Child of WILLIAM PHELPS and ALICE SMITH is: 4. i. WILLIAM JR. HENRY3 PHELPS. 3. JOSEPH ROBERT SR.2 PHELPS (W. SAM1) was born 1892, and died 1959. He married JANINE BRASWELL. Notes for JOSEPH ROBERT SR. PHELPS: Buried in Ordway Cemetary near his father and mother. Child of JOSEPH PHELPS and JANINE BRASWELL is: i. JOSEPH ROBERT JR.3 PHELPS, b. September 30, 1931, kingsport, Sullivan County, TN; m. SUE HICKES. Notes for JOSEPH ROBERT JR. PHELPS: I got updated info on descendents of Sam Phelps from Rob Phelps Jr. Talked to him by phone from my Dad's house early 1997. His number is (423) 323-8794. Generation No. 3 4. WILLIAM JR. HENRY3 PHELPS (WILLIAM HENRY2, W. SAM1). He married NOT KNOWN. Child of WILLIAM PHELPS and NOT KNOWN is: i. CHARLES4 PHELPS. They may have returned to PA Abt 1842, where son John is reported to have been born. 2. They removed from Southwest VA to Eastern KY, Lawrence CO, KY, between 1846-1849, when Mahala was born. 3. They are listed in the 1850 Lawrence CO, KY, census, and Richard's occupation is given as "gunsmith". 4. They, less Clarinda, who died in 1859, are listed in the 1860 Boyd CO, KY, census, living in Catlettsburg. Richard is listed as a "farmer"! 5. Family tradition relates that this family, less Mahala, who married James Harvey SPERRY, and Clarinda, who d. 1859, may have removed to Missouri after 1860. Anyone know what a "Presentation Warrant" is for a Land Office grant from Richmond?? Is it different from a Settlement grant or Service warrant? It is in the period 1780-1800. Is it a purchase or head grant? -eddie
