    1. BENGE: An Indian Story
    2. Edgar A. Howard
    3. All, Dr. Larry Fleenor informs me that his latest book BENGE is due from the printer next week. It's the story of an Indian raider in SW VA. I helped proofread it and it is great. I love it. It brought tears to this mean-old-man's eyes. I can't recommend it enough. It is a true story of SW VA history that you won't find in most books. I don't know the price or where to get it but I will. I will let you know. It is balanced and not PC. It's an emotional story but pure reality. -eddie, sysop

If you are going to order it must be put in the mail tomorrow, Feb. 17. -eddie

    3. I would like to thank the person who sent this URL. ...I lost my Dad in WWII as a baby of barely 6 mos of age. My granny didn't have him shipped back home due to a terrible incident that happened in her own family, there was a mix-up of bodies somehow & she was afraid to face that again... I went to this site & typed in Dad's name, & it gave me information that I hadn't known before! We knew he was buried in Belgium, 'but' never knew his name was on a monument over in there. It even gave the city & the name of the monument...! So again, 'THANK YOU' very much for sharing this, I for one, really appreciate your kindness! 1. BONARGES (BOUERGES) RILEY
    2. marie bollin
    3. BONARGES RILEY born in 1820 in Virginia, listed on the 1860 Hancock Co. Tennessee census as single with 8 year old son William living two doors away in the household of CARTER SPENCER from virginia. BONARGES served in the Union Army enlisting at Irvine Kentucky in 1862; married DEBORAH BOWLING who was born 1825 in Tennessee. They were married in Owsley Co. Ky. in 1874 and listed on the 1870 & 1880 census there. DEBORAH was listed as widowed on the Clay Co. Ky. census with daughter Elizabeth (my grandmother) and stepson William. According to an annotated 1880 census of Owsley both BONARGES & DEBORAH had been previously married, Bonarges three times and Deborah once. Need to know parents, siblings, marriages and children of Bonarges. According to the little family history I have Deborah was fullblood Cherokee. Please help. Marie B. Bollin

    3. Eddie, I am interested in finding a map that covers Lee Co., where my Hix ancestor settled. Your list did not specify Lee Co. Since Lee didn't exist until the 1790s, might this area be included in Washington Co., which could have been a predecessor? Thanks, Dave

    1. Map Orders
    2. Edgar A. Howard
    3. I have received over $300 in map orders. That should make it worth the drive up to Concord. (pronounced Conquer'd) ( I sent a map to someone before I got the check, and guess what, I never got the check ) Next Friday, Feb. 19 is the cut off so if you want one you must mail the order soon. I tried to find a Kinko's with self-service for the large copier but didn't find one within 100 miles. I will go up Friday and make some copies so I can mail them out Saturday. I have added a lot to the old Wash. Co. map. I'm happy with the many SURNAME places on the Scott Co. map. I wish I could find names like that for RUSSELL & TAZEWELL Co. If anyone knows of an old map for those please let me know. I will start searching with I get to SW VA next month. Thanks. -sysop

Overbay) Subject: Re: (Fwd) Fw: Re: Fw: Re: The Draper Manuscripts, index Date sent: Fri, 12 Feb 1999 20:17:55 -0500 Ebbing Spring is about two miles South of Interstate 81 in Washington County, Va. From Glade Spring exit (exit 29), go to Hwy 11 and then east for about a mile turning south on Rt. 714. About a mile and just before crossing the Middle Fork of the Holston River, go east up the river a little less than a mile. The spring is still there , still ebbing and flowing, the church is gone and most of the cemetery. About all left to mark the site is a stone in a pasture erected by Old Glade Presbyterian Church marking the site. The spring almost runs dry, then runs bold and vice versa , thus ebbing. >List, > > ><< Ebbing and Sinking Springs >Presbyterian congregations in Fincastle, Virginia>> > > Does anyone know where these churches were?? 3. Jeff Weaver has a page on this at www.ls.net/~newriver/draper1.htm The Kentucky Archives' Kentucky History Room has The Draper Catalog and microfilm of the records. The Catalog is a book rather like an chronological index. A neat feature is that it gives a few lines or a descriptive paragraph of what the docoment actually is. I was able to trace an ancestor through several counties and learn what he was doing there without having to go to the microfilms. I would bet the catalog is in most genealogical libraries. We owe a lot to Dr. Draper. Sue McNaught

    3. Although I've never used the Draper Manuscripts, other researchers tell me they are a wonderful source of genealogical and historical information. I believe there are 123 rolls of microfilm. The original manuscripts are stored in Wisconsin. The film can be purchased. There is a limited index available but the whole collection has never be indexed. I think the URLs below will answer any questions you have.
