    1. Old Photos
    2. Everytime I go thru my old photos, I keep coming across a few that my mother had dating back to 1914-1915. The pictures are well worn and not in the best condition, but fortunately my mother wrote names and dates on the back of each one. Sometimes she wrote on the front of the picture. I sure would like for the descendants of her friends to have these pictures. (1) Does the name "Mollie Brown" ring a bell with anyone? (This isn't the "invincible Mollie Brown"!) She probably lived in Lee County, VA, Claiborne County, TN, or Bell County, KY. Mollie is holding a baby in her lap. (2) Lillie (Lily) Coots. She is wearing what appears to be a white dress and is holding a baby. (3) "Rita Suttles and Sherman Dean." This photo must have been taken around a holiday celebration. The year was 1914-15. They are wearing winter clothing and standing with my mother. Sherman is wearing a hat and has a small flag in his lapel. The couple may have married because, I believe my mother said Rita and Sherman were courting. Facts: Rita Suttles was my mother's closest friend and she was the daughter of the local doctor in the Lee County, VA, and Claiborne County, TN, areas. She had a sibling named Hagen, and according to Mama, the good doctor was so busy he just didn't have time to concentrate on names for the other siblings when they were born so he called them Butch, Buck, and Babe (these may have been nicknames and whether or not true, it makes an interesting story!!) Although rather worn, it would be a nice picture for a descendant to have in his family files. If these names mean anything to you, I'll be glad to scan and forward the pictures. Pat

    1. MARTIN, MARCUM, DAVIS, BURK etc
    2. Hi Group, I am new to the list and I have a William Daniel MARTIN b Dec 1865 in TN or VA. His mother dies when William is still young and his father remarries. William does not get along with his step mother. He lives with relatives for a while, then moves to Franklin Co AR c 1881 -16years old! I have copies of some old letters (1882-1885) written to William in AR. They all come from Lee Co VA. One starts: Dear son, and is signed Andrew. Andrew is working at MORGANS in Douglas, Lee Co VA, and Andrew asks William (who is 19 years old now) to send a little money. A couple of the letters are from his sister Margret MARTIN, some are from his cousin Miney M MARTIN, she marries a B.? H.? MARCUM 1 Oct 1885. Many letters from girls: Beth EDMONSON, and from Mattie R BURK who is at Gladeville College. I have found William on 1900, 1910 and 1920 census in AR. He and his children say he is born VA, sometimes TN. All of his relatives are in Rose Hill, Boons Path,Douglas, Lee County area 1882-1885. My problem : I have yet to spot William on 1870 or 1880 census. He may not be living at home in 1880, but surely 1870 he does. He would be 4 years old then. Have looked for Andrew MARTIN in Lee Co 1870 but no luck. Someone just told me there is an Andrew MARTIN in Harlan Co KY in 1870. Would appreciate a look up of him. A John DAVIS may have moved with William to AR. Would appreciate any information at all on these people. Solveig Berry
