    1. Re: Back Creek
    2. Hi Guys! I live in Roanoke, VA. The cities in VA are separate from the counties. Roanoke, the city, is surrounded by Roanoke, the county, VA. Not far from where I live in the city is the county line into Roanoke Co., and there is a Back Creek at the foot of Bent Mt. which is on Route 221 going over the mountain to Floyd Co, VA. This creek flows into the Roanoke River. On Back Creek, there is a Poages' Mill. I suspect this is the one you are looking for. Robert Poage, son of Robert, immigrant, and Elizabeth (Preston) was born in Ireland about 1730 and lived in Boetourt Co VA on the Back Creek which empties into the Roanoke River in present Roanoke County. According to some old maps, the Back Creek of Aug.Co is now part of Highland Co VA. Can anyone tell me the difference between the "Back Creeks"?

    1. New List Member - Williams
    2. Hello: I am a new member to the list and would like to ask if there is anyone who might be able to help with a problem. My Williams line originates with Richard Williams and Margaret Jones of Loudon Co., Va. Their sons Joseph (b 1748) and Jenkin came to Wythe Co., what is now Smyth Co., VA. I have two direct lines to Joseph. One is Elizabeth Williams, his daughter who married William Bonham. The other is through his son Thomas Williams (b 1785) who married Susan (Polly) Harvey, born in Tennessee. I have for years thought my next generation was Thomas's son, Harvey Nathaniel who married Christina E. Jones in Smyth Co. in 1850. In reviewing some recent records, I am about to conclude that this Harvey Nathaniel may actually be a grandson of Thomas and son of another Harvey, son of Thomas. I know this is confusing but it's coming from someone who is now completely confused! :) If anyone happens to be searching this line and can shed some light on the children of Thomas, I would greatly appreciate it.
