To: [email protected] CC: [email protected] Connie One problem with posting that kind of information is that you may be violating a copyright. This is not a problem where the information is a copy of a government document. The latter kind of document is especially important to share, especially deeds, wills, etc. The Federal Census information might not be as important, since more people have access to that information. However, local census information is harder to come by. Phil
Connie, As NCGenWeb Cordinator for the Counties of Cumberland and Hoke, I would be happy to post anything you may offer which concerns either of these Counties. Thanks, Myrtle Bridges

Please, anyone who may have information on these names contact me. This is my biggest Brick Wall at the present. I need to know who Rebecca's parents were, and if Sarah was part of her name. I need to know her children if there were any and a death date. Surely, there is more information in Scott County about these James names somewhere? In 1820 Levi Canter and a wife named Sarah is in Washington County, Va. with children. Is Sarah Rebecca James or a new wife? Can anyone look to see if there are James surnames in the area at that time that might link to Rebecca ? Here is the only clue I have: IN THE RECENTLY FOUND BONDS & MARRIAGE RECORDS FOUND IN SCOTT COUNTY ATTIC 1815-1820: LEVI CANTER MARREID REBECKA JAMES, DEC. 27,1815. Bond signers: LEVI CANTER, SIGNED X, JOHN JAMES, SIGNED X, BOLLING JAMES. Witness: JOHN MCHENRY. Anything Appreciated. connie knipp

I know when I go to the library or when someone sends me information that whole pages were copied to save time. I have loads of papers here where I have searched my family and there are many other names listed. I try to send these names out at times, but I am on so many list, and it gets confusing to try and share, yet I feel bad that I may have something that would help others and just can't get it to the right person. I bet there are many that have pieces of information that has been collected this way. Some of us may have a piece of info that would break down a brickwall for someone else or provide a missing link. Is there a site where these things could be donated so everyone could search for names? If not could one be made available? Just a thought. Connie
Eddie, Loves' Mill was located on the South Fork Holston River on the Smyth-Washington co. line.. The old Barrack High School was in Washington County within sight of the mill.. I know because I used to walk from Smyth County to Barrack School. I lived on Grose Creek and walked three miles through knee deep snow to school, and it was Up Hill both ways!... G. Eddie, Out of curiosty..I looked at page 1 of my cencus 1860 Washington Co VA...If you look at LITCHFIELD George V 60 m SADDLER 35000 20000 VA I think George may have had $350.00 and $200.00 I personally don't think his real est and personal real est were that much with him being a saddler....I noticed all through the book that there are lots of people that looked like they lots of money..What do you think....maybe no decimal point ??/ anyone else have any ideas..another example.. WIDENOR Paulson (pg146)45 m Day Laborer 5000 personal real est...no way could a day laborer have $5000. If you'll notice there is a -between 50-00and a space. Volks, In the 1860 Wash. Co census in the Saltville region are listed several people born in Germany. A John ACKERMAN age 38 w/ family born in Germany. A 7 year old son was born in New York suggest that they landed in NYC and moved to VA. His occupation is listed as "Salt Boiler". Others born in Germany are Snyder, Craft, and Bearlman with occ. of Washerwoman, "Attends Engine", and Manufactures Salt w/ personal property valued at $80,000. That's no chump change. <g.> -eddie
Volks, I'm going thru the 1860 Wash Co census working mostly on Fleenor. As I go thru I see points of interest so I will have a few post today as I watch football. Family # 2367 list Thomas LOVE as a millwright. I think it is in the Clear Branch (creek) area. There was a Love's Mill but I thought it was near Damascus. Anyone have knowledge of this? -eddie
Volks, 1860 Wash Co census family # 2350 list _Col_ John Preston, age 79 w/ $61,760 in real property and $42,860 in personal property. Anyone know of him?? He is too young to be a Col in the Rev. War. Maybe the War of 1812 probably of a local militia. At that time land was worth about $10 per arce. That would give him 6,000 acres of land. But I can't see what he could own in personal property that would value at $42,860 except a lot of slaves. No car, no tv or motor boat. Slaves were less that $1,000, so that would be a lot of slaves. One could not put $42,000 worth of pigs and sheep on 6,000 acres. Any thoughts? Anyone working on the Minnick of Clear Br. area, 1860? -eddie
Hello: Does anyone have any Damascus ties? I have recently learned that my James Robert (called Robert) Suit(s) and his wife Missouri Rowland lived there at least in 1910 and probably longer. Also, I have reason to suspect that another line of mine may have been there. I've been trying to find Enoc Franklin Anderson and have just learned he may have ended up in Damascus. He was called Frank, was from Grayson County and was a Baptist preacher. He would have been there after 1900 and his wife at the time was Margaret Keesling. Does anyone know if the Baptist Church in Damascus has records? If anyone knows anything about these, I would certainly appreciate hearing from you. Thanks so very much.
