    1. Re: [SUTTON] Brothers John and Thomas of Mississippi
    2. Thomas Sutton born about 1795 died Oct. 24, 1830 of a fever & Phebe Humphrey born 1803 were my GG Grandfather & Grandmother. They married Nov. 18, 1820. They had three sons, Thomas, John & Stephen plus I think two girls. This is all in Jefferson County Ms. My grandfather was named Stephen McKinley Sutton. Seems the first Stephen died at an early age. His death was announced in a club he belonged to in Fayette, Mississippi. Phebe remarried a man named Nutter Murphy and they all later moved to Louisiana. John married Mary Carroll who's father John Carroll fought in the battle of New Orleans. I have a copy of John Carroll's obituary stating he served his country in the battle of New Orleans and his God as a preacher at Hickory Springs Methodist Church in Jackson Parish, La. for many years. John and Senica are buried at Hickory Springs. The rest of family later moved to Bienville Parish La. John died about 5 years after returning from Civil War. John & Mary Carroll's children were Emily Jane Sutton, Henry S. Sutton, Senica Sutton, Jackson Whitfield Sutton, George Washington Sutton, Charles B. (Doc) Sutton, John Ervin Sutton. I was named after John Ervin Sutton & Charles B. (Doc) Sutton who died at 17 and 19. One fell off of horse and it broke his neck the other my uncle Henry said was a fighter that someone hit him over the head with a club. John Sutton was captured in the battle of Irish Bend just out of Franklin, La. April 14, 1863. Thomas was killed in the first attack on Gen. Banks troops by General. Richard Taylor April 8, 1864 in the battle of Mansfield, La. Both John & Thomas served under Gray from Bienville Parish. Richard Taylor, son of Zachary Taylor was over all troops in La. at the time. Hope this helps. I have much more if any of this fits. Did this in a hurry so pardon the mistakes. Charles Irvin Sutton
