    1. [SUTTON] Fred Sutton, Dodge City

    3. I was leafing through the Book of Lists #3 this morning and noticed something interesting. On a photograph of Wyatt Earp (pg. 421), there is a signature reading "To my friend Fred Sutton from Wyatt Earp - Oct 14, 1925." In a collection of Earp letters at http://home.earthlink.net/~night666/the_depository/earpletters.htm this gentleman is mentioned again as "one of the old timers at Dodge City". Fred Sutton also was the author of a letter that Earp had sent to silent film cowboy star and director William S. Hart. The letter contained an account "of the opening of the Strip from the Oklahoma side" near Caldwell, KS. I also found a reference to Marshal of Dodge City, Jim Masterson, being a card dealer at Fred Sutton's saloon. Does anyone know the background of this Sutton? I don't have him in my line but wasn't aware of this "cousins" role in the old west.
