Published in the Columbia, SC - State Sept. 27, 2004 LETHA HIPPS Columbia -- Funeral service for Mrs. Letha Sutton Hipps, 83, of Columbia will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Swansea with the Rev. L.R. Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Swansea Cemetery in Swansea. She was born in Lexington County, a daughter of the late Jake Sutton and Mrs. Rosa Williams Sutton. Mrs. Hipps departed this life on Thursday, September 23, 2004. She was married to the late Joseph C. Hipps, Sr. To that union three children were born, Letha Mae Ellison, who preceded her in death, Joseph C. Hipps Jr. and Edna Briggs Moore. She leaves to cherish her loving memory one son, Joseph C. (Annie Laurie) Hipps, Jr. and one daughter, Mrs. Edna (James) Briggs Moore of Columbia; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Bishop Jacob Sutton of Gaston, Eddie L. Sutton, Sr. and Rev. Elvin J Sutton, Sr. of West Columbia, Rev. Nathaniel Sutton, Sr. and Mrs. Arthur Sutton of Swansea; six sisters, Pernell Jeffcoat of Columbia, Rev. Ira Rivers of Cayce, Rev. Ella C. Walker of Swansea, Rev. Mary L. Jackson and Mrs. Emma Dell Sherard of West Columbia and Ola Torain of White Plains, NY and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
