Published in the Hendersonville, NC - Times-News August 9, 2004 Bernita S. Ledbetter, 91 Bernita Sutton Ledbetter, 91, of Willetts Road in Sylva, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at Harris Regional Hospital after a period of declining health. She was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, a loving wife, mother and granny, and a devoted Christian. She was a retired school teacher, teaching for 32 years at Scotts Creek Elementary School, Log Cabin School and Dillsboro School. She was a member of Sylva Church of Christ. She was a quilter. She was the daughter of the late Allen and Bertha Snider Sutton, and was preceded in death by a stepmother, Ethel Snider Sutton; two brothers, Robert Guy Sutton and an infant brother; and a sister, Kathlyn Isreal. Survivors include three daughters, Jackie Sue Ledbetter of Sylva, Linda Ledbetter Frye and her husband, William, of Hendersonville, and Anne L. Bembry and her husband, Wallace, of Sylva; a son, Thomas A. Ledbetter and his wife, Connie, of Hendersonville; a sister, Mary Knight of Sylva; a brother, Bill Sutton of Sylva; four grandchildren, Jodie Wade, Jason Bembry, Wendy Frye Edney and Megan Shaffer. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Ledbetter Family Cemetery.
