Published 8-5-1981-The Monroe Evening News James W. Sutton, 75, of the Mable H. Kehres Apartments, 15275 S. Dixie Hwy ., died after suffering a heart attack at 6:30 this morning in Mercy Hospital Unit. He had been in poor health for five years and seriously ill since entering the hospital Tuesday. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today and until 9 tonight in the Earle Little Funeral Home. The body will be sent to the Coffey Mortuary, Tazewell, Tenn., for services at 1 p.m. Friday in Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church there, of which he was a member. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery , Claiborne County, Tenn. Born Sept. 26, 1005, in Claiborne County, he was the son of W .T .and Matilda (Montgomery) Sutton. He was married Nov. 22, 1925, to Bertha Estep in Harrogate, Tenn. She died Dec. 12, 1971. A self-employed farmer, he came t-o Monroe from Springfield, Ohio, after retiring in 1971. He was a member of Big Springs Union Lodge 581, Free and Accepted Masons, Harrogate, where he was a past master . Surviving are two sons, Kenneth E. and Billy J., both of Monroe; a brother, Charley of Mulberry, Ind. ; three sisters, Mrs. Dora Brooks of Mulberry, Mrs. Nora Alwine of Bristol, Va., and Mrs. Edna Dalton of Springfield; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister . ****** obit - Monroe Evening News - 12-13-1971 Mrs. James (Bertha) Sutton, 65, of 2005 French Creek Dr., Willow Green Mobil Home Park, died yeaterday morning in Mercy Hospital. She had been in poor health since Nov. 25 when she entered the hospital. Her body was sent from the Earl Little funeral home to the Coffey Funeral Home, Taxewell Tenn. today. Services will will be in Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Chuech in Harrogate, Tenn., at 1 p.m. Wednesday and burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The daughter of Silas and Cornie Estep, she was born February 11, 1906, in Harrogate. She was married to James William Sutton, Nov. 22, 1925 in Harrogate. Mrs. Sutton came to Monroe April 14, 1971, from Springfield, Ohio, where she had lived 10 years. She was a member of the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband; her mother, Mrs Cornie Estep of Castalia, Ohio; two sons, Kenneth E. Sutton and Billy Jay Sutton, both of Monroe; two brothers, Ernest Estep of Harrogate and Arnold Estep of Castalia, Ohio; five sosters, Mrs. Meak (Glessie) Cosby of Harrogate, Mrs. Clyde (Jean) Burchett of Bartersville, Ky,, Mrs. John (Nellie) Redmond of Shawanee, Tenn., Mrs J.B. (Rosa) Whitaker of Tazewell, Tenn., and Mrs. Robert (Blanche) Stock of Bowie Md., and three grandchildren. ************** Monroes Evening News Obituary -Published 2-14-1994 Billy J. Sutton. 64. of Monroe. who retired in May. 1992. after 27 years at the General Motors Corp. Powertrain plant in Toledo. died at 4:20 p.m. Sunday in Mercy Memorial Hospital. He had been ill for three years. Friends may call after 7 tonight in the Rupp Funeral Home. where services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Mike Nolan. associate pastor at the Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. will officiate and burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. LaSalle. Born June 15. 1929. in Harrogate. Tenn.. he was the son of J .W. and Bertha (Estep) Sutton. He was married Sept. 3. 1950. to Stella (Mae) Bowman in Middlesboro, Ky. Mr. Sutton served in the Army from 1951 to 1953. and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of a masonic lodge in Detroit. Surviving are his wife; a son. Mickey J. of Stanager. Norway; a daughter. Mrs. Randy (Carol L.) Bowen of LaSalle; a brother. Kenneth of Monroe. and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
