Published in the Sarasota, FL - Herald-Tribune 30 May 2002 Velma Boers Pond, 84, Mesa, Ariz., and formerly of Bradenton, died May 25, 2002. She was born Dec. 8, 1917, in Allegan, Mich., and came to Bradenton in 1981 from Portage, Mich. She moved to Mesa in 2001. She worked for the Portage School System for 30 years. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5855 Ladies Auxiliary in Portage and Women of the Moose, Portage Chapter 350 in Kalamazoo, Mich. Survivors include her husband, Floyd; daughters Loretta Tompkins of Ellenton and Jo Ann Tuttle of Sarasota; stepsons Dennis of Portage and Gerald of Mesa; a sister, Norma Jean Gould of Kalamazoo; a brother, Donald Sutton of Allegan; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brown and Sons Funeral Home, 26th Street Chapel. The service will be private for the family. Burial will be in Ellenton.
