It contains papers relating primarily to the literary interests of three nineteenth-century figures. Henry Septimus Sutton (1825-1901) was a Nottingham born author and poet. He was editor of the Alliance News of Manchester between 1854 and 1898. ---------------------------------------------------------- Manuscripts of Manners Sutton family of Kelham, Nottinghamshire, 1722-1910 The Manners Sutton family of Kelham in Nottinghamshire owned extensive estates in East Nottinghamshire, incuding in the parishes of Kelham, Averham, Rolleston, Staythorpe, Park Leys, Knapthorpe, North Clifton and Harby. The collection is primarily concerned with inheritance and title to the estates. It includes deeds, marriage settlements and other evidences of marriages, extracts from probate copies of wills and documents following from trust settlements. Arrangement: The manuscripts are arranged chronologically. ------------------------------------------------------ Deeds relating to Long Sutton (also known as Sutton St Mary), Lincolnshire, 1734-1884 The collection records through copy wills, leases, abstracts of title, and other documents the acquisition and disposal of various properties in Long Sutton, Lincolnshire and actions before the manorial courts of Sutton Cranwell and Sutton Holland. Families featured in the descent of the lands include those of Thisleton, Worrall, Rhodes, Goats, Moore, Delamore, Hutchinson, Oswin and Spendla.
