Wendy; I am going to continue to straighten this out. I had contacted Phillip Sutton when I first noticed this mistake. I tried to explain to him that he has connected two families of Sutton's that should NOT be together. Let me try again for all to read. First . . . your Lemuel F. Sutton is NOT my Lemuel Sutton. Yours was born in 1833 in Sussex Co, NJ. MY Lemuel Sutton was born 1794 in Prince Georges Co., MD. I have MY Lemuel on an 1850 Slave Schedule of the Northern Division, Holly Springs, Marshall, MS with his second wife Elizabeth V. Lockridge married 12 Mar 1850. Lemuel's first wife was Anne W. Thomas and he married her 16 Jul 1823 in Rutherford, TN. What happened to Anne or where she is buried is anybody's guess. I have not found her yet. As for Elizabeth . . . I have no idea either when she died or where she is buried. MY Lemuel's third wife was Ellenor Woods (I do not have the name of Westfall in my genealogy) and he probably married her prior to Ella being born in 1856. You have Eleanor married to Lemuel before 1850. If it were MY Lemuel, then he would be a polygamist. Second . . . Eleanor (Ella) Sutton b. 11 Feb 1856 in Coldwater, DeSoto, MS. (Coldwater was in DeSoto County until Tate County was formed in 1858) Ada Sutton b. 10 Apr 1858 in Coldwater, Tate, MS. This information is correct because this is what I have supplied you with from my Family Bible. Now this is where it gets interesting. You have another child squeezed in between Ella and Ada . . . George S. Sutton b. 22 Mar 1857. I really feel for this woman. She is married (according to your records) in Marshall, MS before 1850. She waits until 1856 (highly unlikely) to have her first? child who is Ella. She then travels half way across the country to have her second child George in Sussex, NJ . . . then the following year she returns to Marshall, MS to have her third child Ada. I don't think so. Third . . . I have been working on a "story" about Lemuel for the last 25 years. I was told that his daughters were raised in the Methodist Orphanage in Selma, Dallas, AL after he was killed during the Civil War. I have contacted the Methodist Orphanage in Selma and found that they did not open their doors before 1890. Ella was married in 1872 and Ada was living with her until she married in 1908. This is confirmed on the 1880 and 1900 Census and my Family Bible. It is "possible" that the girls were sent to a Masonic Home to live, but I do not know if it was in Selma or Holly Springs. I do not know what the connection is to Selma, Dallas, AL. Wendy . . . I find this very frustrating. Would you please help me to separate these two families "before" someone else believes this "pedigree" to be correct. Thank you . . .
