Bonnie Sutton here, I am a descendant of William Mitchell Sutton & Clarissa, through their son David Sutton b. TN 1806, m. Margaret Messer. They had at least nine children all born in Haywood Co, NC as follows: +Solomon Sutton, b. July 15, 1837, d. January 02, 1894. William Sutton, b. 1829 Elizabeth Sutton, b. 1830 John Sutton, b. 1832 Henry Sutton, b. 1837 James Sutton, b. 1840 Silas Sutton, b. 1842 Sarah Sally Sutton b. 1844 Minerva Sutton, b. 1846 Soloman Sutton m. Dorcas Dills & they had a son William who married Sarah Jane Caldwell. The Caldwell, Messer & Sutton families were prominent throughout the remote mountain country of NC, in an area called Cattaloochee, now the Great Smokey Mountains Park. The old caldwell house and some others are still standing in the federal park - check out this site for photos & a glimpse of what their hosues may have been like in this area in the mid-late 1800's- http://www.usgennet.org/usa/nc/county/haywood/stream.htm I have been working on the Clarissa & William mystery for a couple years now, too. Just wondered if you had made any more headway. I have a different story on Aggie Lossiah too, that she was Scotch or Irish, not Cherokee (though I'm still faithfully looking for the full blooded cherokee indian rumored to be one of my ancestors-perhaps my Scotch info is wrong! Wouldn't that be cool!) ANY info on this Sutton line from Cataloochee, NC or any clues as to what part of TN Clarissa might have been from or anything that might be relative would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!- Bonnie Sutton Neumeister
