Sutton, 83, Mitchell, formerly of Carthage, gied Monday, July 22, 2002, at Firesteel Healthcare Center, Mitchell. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at UCC Church, Carthage. Burial will be inPleasant View Cemetery, Carthage. Visatation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Willoughby Funeral Home, Howard, with a 7:30 p.m.prayer service. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the services at the church Thursday. He was born on Aug. 23,1918, on a farmstead two miles south of Carthage to Clarence and Gertrude (Freeman) Sutton. He was raised in the Carthage area and attended school in the area. He graduated from the Argonne High School in 1936. He farmed with his father for several years after graduating. On April 11, 1958, he married Arlene Cities at Pipestone, Minn. They farmed in the Carthage area until 1977 when they moved into Carthage. He was a member of the UCC Church, was active on church boards and served as the janitor for many years. He was a a member of the IOOF Lodge, Carthage, onthe township board, drove school bus for 11 years, was the janitor for Redstone Apartments, drove the city garbage truck for several years. He is survived by his wife, two stepsons; Darrell Cities and wife, Linda, Aloen, Ore.; and Doyle Cities and wife Linda, Sherwood, Ore.;five step-grandchildren; a sister, Elva Patterson, Rapid City; a sister-in-law, Elaine Richard, St Charles, Minn.; and two nieces.
