Montgomery & Macoupin Co.'s of Illinois - Obituaries Sutton, Ruth Services for Ruth Sutton, mother of Geneva Blankenship of Hillsboro, were theld this morning in Centralia. Burial was in Zion Hill Cemetery there. Mrs. Sutton, of Vandalia, died at 12:24 a.m. Friday, September 25, 1998, in Utlaut memorial Hospital, Greenville. She was 90 years old on October 6. She was born in Lakewood, a daughter of John William and Bessie Askins Phillips. Her first husband, Morris Glen Smith, whom she married in 1931 in Cowden, preceded her in death. She married C.A. Sutton in 1993, and he died in October 1994. Surviving besides her daughter, Mrs. George Blankenship, are sons, Carol Smith of rural Salem, Robert Smith of Georgetown, Ky.; brother, Nelson Phillips of Bethalto; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. A sister, Roberta Kemper, preceded her in death.
