    1. Re: [SUTTON] Fw: Ancestors of Annie L. Sutton, b. 1830
    2. Janie, Welcome to our family tree.........we are distant kin........ You are right, Anna L. Sutton married Abner L. Rodgers on Sept 21, 1851 in Lauderdale County, TN...........this is really interesting.......and that she named her last son Page Pendleton Rodgers........we are definitely kin!!! Marsha Maybe I do have some information that would be of interest to you -- and I thought I knew nothing about my Suttons. You know, you wrote her midle name as "Lewis," which triggered something. I looked again at her son's death certificate and on the line for his mother's name, her name is written Lewis Sutton. Hmmm. And, as I look at some notes my mother wrote years ago, she has her name as Annie Louis Sutton. (Basically hte same name, really.) Anyway. Her mother is where she got the name for her second son -- Page Pendleton Rodgers!! It sounded like a family name, but we had no idea from where. Now I know!! This is the son from whose birth she did not recover. He was born in Nov. of 1853 and she died March 1, 1854 -- at least according to our information. She died in what is now Tate County, Mississippi, but was then DeSoto County, Mississippi, and is buried in a small family (Rodgers family) cemetery in a pasture out in the middle of nowhere. (I have been there, though, and have seen her marker. It is a large obelisk and says she was the wife of A.L. Rodgers.) Oh, actually I'm looking at something I got from a Google search that has Annie L. Sutton as being born 2/21/1830 and dying on 3/1/1854. (It's cemetery information that lists her in the Rodgers Cemetery here in Tate County and as wife of Abner L. Rodgers. Don't know the source for that info, though.) I think Ann married Abner Leroy Rodgers in Tennessee, possibly Lauderdale County, in 1850 or 1851. (The dates are according to some of my mother's notes.) Ann's husband was born in Alabama about 1818 and she was apparently born in Virginia. Perhaps both families went to Tennessee and they met there? Their first son, Preston Walker Rodgers, was born in Tennessee. (He was my great grandfather.) But now I'm realizing that the ancestry.com note you (or someone) sent me has her marrying Abner in 1855. Could that date be wrong? All the info that you provided in the e-mail I'm responding to here works for a marriage in 1850 or 1851 and the names work to be my ancestors. Since I know nothing further back than Ann herself, you can probably tell better than I if this is my Ann. The birth year is about right and a couple of siblings are correct. We probably just weren't aware of all of her siblings since she died when my great grandfather was a boy and he apparently knew nothing about her other than that she was born in Virginia. The name of the mother of your Ann Sutton just really makes me think this is my Ann Sutton, too. What do you think? Thanks!!!! This is getting good. jm (Janie)
