My John was born late 1780's or early 1790's. Unfortunately I have almost no information on him. I only know that he existed, married in 1809 in Kentucky, settled in 1816 as an original land owner in Lawrence County, Indiana and served as a constable there for a while. He was in the 1830 census but apparently died shortly thereafter. I actually can't even prove he was the father of my ancestor (Ari Sutton 1826-1906), can only go on what others have told me. There apparently was not a will and I can't find burial info for either John or his wife Rachel. I haven't gone into too much on the siblings of my ancestor and have no idea how my ancestor wound up in Montgomery County, Indiana, where he married in 1849 (although I do know that he was born in Lawrence County). John did supposedly come from North Carolina but I have no idea where. Going on the idea that John and his wife seemed to follow the traditional naming pattern with their children I think I narrowed down about a dozen families from the 1790 census that could have been John's family (theoretically) but I never followed up on them, it was too difficult to say "this Benjamin had young children at the time so he could be John's father but this other Benjamin didn't so he can't be... but which is which?" When I very first started genealogy the Sutton family was my first major discovery... and I haven't made a discovery on that line since! Maybe someday! If this sounds familiar to anyone I would love to hear from you! > Date: Fri, 24 Sep 2004 08:52:57 EDT > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [SUTTON] John Sutton Bible > > My ancestor William Sutton had a brother John.
