He was descended from the Hanleys of Newark, NJ, and I hope he might have some info about their origin in Ireland. His father is on the HANLEY tombstone in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Orange, NJ. My gr.grandmother was Alice Hanley who had at least one brother, John Hanley. Amelia Hanley was somehow related to the Schroths.

Franz was a Prussian official living in Bielsk in 1803 on the Polish border. His son, Carl, was born then. I have most of his descendants, but cannot verify his parents. He went to Koenigsberg (Kaliningrad today) when Napoleon's troops arrived in Bielsk. A family story, unverfied by history books, is that Franz was the interpreter at the Treaties of Tilsit since he spoke German, Polish, French, and Russian. Before going to Bielsk he was in Willenberg (Wielbark today) and in Johannisberg, E. Prussia (Picz today). Have his direct line down to me, but there must be more in Germany who might know who his parents were and where they came from.

But I cannot connect Abraham to the correct set of parents. He married Maria Van Giesson who was from an old Dutch family in NJ. They married in 1814 in what was then West Bloomfield, NJ. Who were Abraham's parents? The records in Caldwell were supposedly burned in the church fire in 1800 so I cannot trace him that way. Nor could I find his marriage record which might have listed his parents.

I think his father was James and mother Jane. They probably came to Canada about 1830? The children were all born in Ireland except James who was born in Quebec. I have many of the descendants, but need to know where Robert was born in Ireland and where his parents came from.

Foster's mother is another puzzle. Foster was apparently illegitimate since both Abraham and his brother were married at the time of his birth in 1820, and Orpha would have been about 14. Her maiden name was supposed to be WOOD, nothing else is known about her, except that in old age she married Abraham Sutton, after living for awhile with his twin brother. She was adopted by John Taylor and his wife as a child and had an adoptive sister, Fanny. She left bequests to about 26 nieces and nephews, none of them Suttons, and most of them living in MI or ILL.

His DAR infor is wrong. His 9 children were supposed to be born in Newton, NJ, but there are no records there. He is supposed to have married Hannah Vogt, but I can find no trace of her either. There are a variety of family stories, but none can be verified. The family ended up in Naples, Ontario County, NY, and I have traced most of the Sutton descendants from there, but still need to find out about Elisha and Hannah.

Shadrick's second wife was Susannah Whitehurst Wall. It is stated that the only known named son of Irwin was William B. Sutton. This Shadrick Sutton was born in Pitts Co., NC, lived in Montgomery Co.,Irwin Co., GA, Hamilton Co., FL, before moving further down state. Irwin Sutton and wife Rebecca Moss (my line) are found in 1830, 1840 Dooly Co. GA , 1850 Wakulla Co., FL, censuses. (Rebecca died in the early 1850s). In the 1860 Hamilton Co., FL census Irwin is found in the household of son William B. Sutton . In the 1870 census William B. is back in Wakulla Co.,FL , and Irwin has, apparently, died. Do you have info on Shadrack's first wife and that family? I am trying to prove parentage of Irwin and need help. Thank you. Carolyn Chason

Surnames: Sutton, Jones, Springer Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wkQBAIB/2454 Message Board Post: I am new to genealogy and I am trying to find out about my fathers's family. My father never said much about them, so I do not have much to go by. I have a photostatic copy of a special certificate of births for use in recording births occurring prior to 1911. Nathan Thomas Sutton was born in 1859 in Union County, Kentucky. He was married to Dixie Jones, who was born in 1861 in Webster County, Kentucky. Dixie gave birth to my father, Carson on August 11, 1894 in Providence, Kentucky and three years later gave birth to a second son, Starling in August of 1897. When my father was 6 years old his parents divorced and my father and uncle were kidnapped by their father and were hidden at their grandparents farm. My father said that his mother tried for a while to get her sons back, but my grandfather was always successful in keeping them hidden. After a while his mother gave up and started a new life in either Indiana or Illinois, where she remarried and started another f! amily. He never said whether he knew what her new married name was or how many children she had though he did say she had more children. Nathan remarried a woman named Addie Maddox whom my father referred to as Momma. Nathan and Addie never had any children and they divorced, but my father continued to have a relationship with her and I met her when she was in her 70's as my grandmother. My father may have grown up in the Louisville/Paducah, Kentucky area, as he would mention those towns when he talked of his youth. My father never said anything about my grandfather. I do not know if he ever married again or had anymore children. I don't know where or when he died or anything about the Sutton family he came from. If anyone has any information about this branch of Suttons please let me know. I have never seen the names of Carson or Starling in anything I have read on the Sutton web sight. As these names are unusual I was hoping to spot a family with them in their fa! mily tree. I believe that the name of Springer was related to this line of Suttons because I do remember my dad as introducing a man named Carson Springer to me as his cousin. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thank-you

It was called the Sutton Hotel and was actually run by a fellow named Dad Bentley (although I believe that the Sutton's may have started it). I suspect that this hotel was actually started by your family. It existed in Olustee almost from the founding days of the town. There are many older folks in Olustee who can tell you more about it. Interestingly, my mother met my father at this hotel.....so thanks.
