    3. SOUTHWEST PERRY COUNTY, TENNESSEE CEMETERIES Sutton Cemetery The Sutton Cemetery is near the middle of the Marsh Creek Valley. A sign where the access drive meets the main road through the valley reads "Sutton Cemetery/1826 to Infinity." This is a well maintained cemetery. The cemetery is in two parts. The main section is nearly full. In recent years burials have been made in a new section off the southwest corner of the original cemetery. However, burials have continued along the edges of the original section. Many graves in the center of the cemetery are unmarked. Two points of interest are a fenced area with Dickson family graves and a house-like stone tomb for a Grain family couple. This cemetery was surveyed December 26, 1988. 1. [SUTTON] Mary Elizabeth Sutton married to John R. A. Kincade
    2. Liz Boulais
    3. Not my family - just passing the information for other searchers. Liz Boulais New Hampshire John R. A. Kincade was born on 4 Jan 1859 in TN.(15) He appeared on the census in 1880 in Randolph Co, AR. John is listed in this census, Roanoke Twp, as follows: John Kincad, 21, head, married, farmer; AR/TN/TN; and Mary, 17, wife, married, housekeeper; AR/TN/TN. They live next door to Mary's parents in this census.. He died on 8 Dec 1903 in Pocahontas, Randolph Co, AR. (15) According to Frank Kincade, Johnny Kincade worked in Black Rock, AR. He worked on River Boats and Tug Boats, where he rebuilt or repaired the boats. He walked to work and home every day. One day he was wet when he walked home. He caught pneumonia and died. When his son, George, was a small boy, he would sometimes walkto work with his dad. He is buried in Sutton Cemetery, Pocahontas, AR. He was married to Mary Elizabeth Sutton (daughter of James Franklin M. Sutton and Ann Noblin) on 21 Mar 1880 in Pocahontas, Randolph Co, AR. (7) Mary Elizabeth Sutton was born on 18 Mar 1863 in AR.(15) (20) She died on 15 Mar 1947 in Pocahontas, Randolph Co, AR. (15)(21) Mary's obituary reads: Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Kincade, aged 84, lifetime resident of Pocahontas, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Earl Dawson, March 15. She was born March 18, 1863, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sutton. Her husband, John Kincade, preceded her in death several years ago. She was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church. Funeral services were conducted at Sutton church Sunday at 2:30 p.m., by the Revs. Ralph Staten and W. Harry Hunt. She is survived by four sons, Geo., Ed, Luke and Fred Kincade; her daughter and 37 grandchildren. Grandma Kincade never turned anyone away from her door. She also never closed her front door. She kept oil cloth half way down the screen door to catch the breeze. Her house had 52 layers where it was papered with newspapers, even the ceiling. In the late 1920's and 30's during the spring months and during the hot weather, babies would catch colitis very easily. Doctors couldn't cure colitis. Mary discovered that she could take wood ditney (found near hickory), strip the leaves off and make a tea. When given to the sick babies, it would likely save them. She sent Hershel Kincade and Waive Todd for roots. She would hang them in the smokehouse and let them dry, then strip and boil them. She saved Tom Kincade, Ed and Myrl's son. She liked to sit by the fire place and chew tobacco. She never owned a home until after Grandpa Kincade died. Then she bought the old Sutton Home or it was deeded to her. When Mary Kincade turned 60 she "gave up housekeeping", sold her house to Ed Kincade, and started living about three months at a time with her grown children. She kept her feather bed and brought it with her each time she changed homes. John R. A. Kincade and Mary Elizabeth Sutton had the following children: +125 i. James Perry Kincade was born about 1880 in Pocahontas, Randolph Co, AR. (15) He died on 23 Jul 1926 in Pocahontas, Randolph Co, AR.(21) James "Perry" Kincade's death was a tragedy for his family and the community. An article from the Pocahontas Star Herald was entitled Telephone Lineman Electrocuted Here. Perry Kincade, aged 45, lineman for the Ozark Telephone Co. here, was killed last Friday morning when he came in contact with a high tension wire, carrying 22,000 volts, on the Arkansas-Missouri Power Company's line a half mile east of Pocahontas. His helper, Floyd Gibson, who is also his son-in-law, was the only eye witness to the tragedy and gives the following account of it: "Mr. Kincade had climbed a telephone pole to cut a wire while "cutting in" a phone for a farmer living near th river. He was about 18 inches from the power line, leaning out to cut the phone wire, when apparently the current leaped from the power line to his body. Mr. Kincade was immediately enveloped in a blue blaze which flamed up several feet above his head and which was so intense that I could not see his form at all. He remained suspended for a moment then slowly fell backward until only his spikes held him to the pole. After hanging head downward for a moment, he fell to the ground." Mr. Gibson rushed to the stricken man and tore away his shirt which was still alive, and hailed Lester Childs, who was passing in his auto. They brought Mr. Kincade to town but were unable to locate a physician for some time. After he was placed under a doctor's care, it was found that he had been burned from his feet to his hat, the skin over all his body being burned loose from the flesh. The accident occured about 9 o'clock in the morning and death resulted at 1:30 in the afternoon. The injured man was never conscious after the accident. Funeral services were held at the Kincade home Monday afternoon and interment was made in Masonic cemetery. He is survived by the widow, two sons, Hulett and John, and one daughter, Mrs. Floyd Gibson. He was buried in Masonic Cemetery, Pocahontas, AR.(15) +126 ii. 3. Paul; Do you have names of those who were in MS in the 1850's? The migratory pattern for my Sutton's started in Prince Georges, MD then into Bedford, Coffee and Rutherford Co's. in TN. then into MS, AR and then into TX. I am tracking a Lemuel Sutton and I have him on an 1850 Slave Schedule in the Northern Division of Holly Springs, Marshall, MS. According to Marshall Co's, website http://www.rootsweb.com/~msmarsha/toc.html#_Records_Index there were other Sutton's there, but I have not been able to make a connection, yet. My Lemuel's first marriage was to an Anne W. Thomas 14 Jul 1823 in Rutherford, TN. His second marriage was to an Elizabeth V. Lockridge 12 Mar 1850 and she brought 4 children with her from previous marriages. I feel certain that Lemuel had children with his first wife Anne and it is possible that the other Sutton's in Marshall Co, were from that union. However, as I said before . . . I am not certain of the connections. Finding my Lemuel Sutton is still an ongoing project. Lynn GGGranddaughter of Lemuel SUTTON. 3. Gardner Family Bible Submitted June 27, 1997 by: Charles R. Mercer 240 S. Greentrails Dr. Chesterfield, MO 63017-2915 Email:chasbo19@idt.net The following is from the bible of Sarah Ann (Hetzler) Steedsman Gardner and came to us via her grandaughter, Margaret (Gardner) Natland of Garden Grove, California. We have just had this bible refurbished and it is as good as new and is richly illustrated and contains a biblical dictionary to boot. The Bible belongs to my wife, Myrna C. (Natland) Mercer. Her mother, Margaret (Gardner) Natland inherited it f from her father who got it from his mother, Sarah Ann (Hetzler) Steedsman Gardner. I have extensive data on this family-all the way back to England in 1634. These folks come from Mass. at nearly the earliest time. They were originally in Salem, MA and then went to Nantucket, MA (They were Quakers. They then migrated to Washington Co., ME, thence to New Brunswick Canada, thence to Grant Co. WI and thence to Nebraska where the bible takes up the details. Charles R. Mercer. Surnames in this record: BRUNDIGE GARDNER STEEDSMAN "New Devotional and Practical Pictorial Family Bible", The National Publishing Company of Philadelphia, PA, Chicago, IL, St. Louis, MO and Atlanta, GA. There is no date of publication, but within the bible is a section which bears the date of 1872. Therefore, the date of publication must be ca 1872. 3. In index of names from : Elizabethan Life : Wills of Essex Gentry & Yeomen by Dr F G Emmison This index is based on pp138/161, the wills of Merchants. Most of the quaint Elizabethan spellings have been retained, with their final e's and their great use of y's. Where the same family name is obviously spelt variously in the one will I have sometimes standardised on one spelling. Robert Badby is spelled Badby, Badbye and Badbee on pp 7,8 & 9. I have also included in this index the names of servants of the peer and esquires from page 3 to page 19 and names of tenants and the like. SUTTON, William Coggeshall, witnessed will of Abraham Lorde 148 SUTTON, George kinsman of Wm Dibneye, 20/- in his will 142

My Nathan Sutton was still in PA in 1840; coming to Grundy Co, IL in 1855. But Nathan was apparently a common name. There are two sources you should check: the Sutton name page provided by Dennis Sutton and the Family Group Records accessed through the LDS site. Both very helpful. Good luck!
