I have finally found the father of my ancestor, Benjamin Sutton, thanks to a wonderful person, Jessica, of the Randolph Township offices, Morris Co., NJ, who looked up his death certificate. Now I am looking for more information, and hopefully the wife & parents of, WILLIAM SUTTON, of Morris Co., NJ. His son, Benjamin (1801-1891) was born in Randolph Township, died in Walnut Grove, and was buried in Mt. Freedom. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Published in the Sewickley, PA - Herald 2001-10-17 Mary Ormsby Sutton Moore, 86, of Osborne, died on Saturday, Oct.13, 2001, at Valley Care Masonic Home in Aleppo Township from the effects of a stroke suffered on Aug. 15. A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church Thursday (tomorrow) at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Geoff Chapman officiating. Mrs. Moore, who lived most of her life in the Pittsburgh area and had celebrated with her husband Martin their 50th wedding anniversary on July 28, was born in Pittsburgh on July 16, 1915, the daughter of Margaret Crosman Phillips and John Blair Sutton. She attended the Fermata Preparatory School in Aiken, S.C., and Sarah Lawrence College in New York. In Sewickley, she was on the Union Aid Society board for many years, served on the committees of St. Stephen's Church and was a member of the Grapevine Garden Club. Mrs. Moore was descended from John Ormsby, one of Pittsburgh's first settlers, a Revolutionary War soldier who is buried in the Trinity Church Yard in Pittsburgh. She also was a collateral descendant of Stephen Collins Foster. In April 1995, on the 150th anniversary of Pittsburgh's Great Fire of 1845, Moore and several other area residents whose ancestors survived it, attended a Western Pennsyl-vania Historical Society ceremony in Oakland commemorating the event. An article in the Sewickley Herald at the time noted that Mrs. Moore had been nicknamed "'Mrs. Pittsburgh' because of the number of distinguished Western Pennsylvania ancestors of whom she can boast." She is survived by her husband Martin L. Moore Jr. of Osborne, her daughter Margaret Christy Moore of Sewickley, her son John Y.C. Graves of East Hampton, N.Y. and four grandchildren. Memorial gifts may be made to the Union Aid Society Thorn Street, Sewickley, Pa. 15143 or to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements were made by Copeland's Sewickley/Irvine Chapel. -- Danny & Nancy Clemmer www.clemmer.org

Wendy; I am going to continue to straighten this out. I had contacted Phillip Sutton when I first noticed this mistake. I tried to explain to him that he has connected two families of Sutton's that should NOT be together. Let me try again for all to read. First . . . your Lemuel F. Sutton is NOT my Lemuel Sutton. Yours was born in 1833 in Sussex Co, NJ. MY Lemuel Sutton was born 1794 in Prince Georges Co., MD. I have MY Lemuel on an 1850 Slave Schedule of the Northern Division, Holly Springs, Marshall, MS with his second wife Elizabeth V. Lockridge married 12 Mar 1850. Lemuel's first wife was Anne W. Thomas and he married her 16 Jul 1823 in Rutherford, TN. What happened to Anne or where she is buried is anybody's guess. I have not found her yet. As for Elizabeth . . . I have no idea either when she died or where she is buried. MY Lemuel's third wife was Ellenor Woods (I do not have the name of Westfall in my genealogy) and he probably married her prior to Ella being born in 1856. You have Eleanor married to Lemuel before 1850. If it were MY Lemuel, then he would be a polygamist. Second . . . Eleanor (Ella) Sutton b. 11 Feb 1856 in Coldwater, DeSoto, MS. (Coldwater was in DeSoto County until Tate County was formed in 1858) Ada Sutton b. 10 Apr 1858 in Coldwater, Tate, MS. This information is correct because this is what I have supplied you with from my Family Bible. Now this is where it gets interesting. You have another child squeezed in between Ella and Ada . . . George S. Sutton b. 22 Mar 1857. I really feel for this woman. She is married (according to your records) in Marshall, MS before 1850. She waits until 1856 (highly unlikely) to have her first? child who is Ella. She then travels half way across the country to have her second child George in Sussex, NJ . . . then the following year she returns to Marshall, MS to have her third child Ada. I don't think so. Third . . . I have been working on a "story" about Lemuel for the last 25 years. I was told that his daughters were raised in the Methodist Orphanage in Selma, Dallas, AL after he was killed during the Civil War. I have contacted the Methodist Orphanage in Selma and found that they did not open their doors before 1890. Ella was married in 1872 and Ada was living with her until she married in 1908. This is confirmed on the 1880 and 1900 Census and my Family Bible. It is "possible" that the girls were sent to a Masonic Home to live, but I do not know if it was in Selma or Holly Springs. I do not know what the connection is to Selma, Dallas, AL. Wendy . . . I find this very frustrating. Would you please help me to separate these two families "before" someone else believes this "pedigree" to be correct. Thank you . . . My father is a Mason from Louisiana and part of our family comes from MS. He said to go to the Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Mississippi. He also said that you might not be able to locate any information from that far back because of the Civil War. Anything from the war forward you have a better chance.

You only need 2 tools. WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape!

I am researching my Sutton family of Jefferson Co., Mississippi, ca. 1820. I have been working on this family for about 15 years and have made no progress. What I am doing now is reading through a file cabinet drawer full of my Sutton research and compiling all info about Sutton's in early Mississippi. I am hoping to be able to connect my Thomas Sutton with one of these families. Please visit my website at www.homestead.com/suttonplace/index.html These are some more notes from my files, pertaining to Sutton's in early Mississippi. I have a Sutton ancestor whose brother was a Mason in Jefferson Co., MS, in 1847. I need to know: 1. Do the Masons keep any records that would be of genealogical value? 2. If so, would records from 1847 still exist? 3. If they do exist, would they be kept on file at the lodge, or in a state archive, or what? 4. Is there a way to search Masonic records statewide to look for other ancestors who may have been a Mason in Mississippi? _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com
