I am a Sutton researcher also and if I give you info, I believe you should know to check that and get it verified before posting it any where. I have found so many mistakes and have emailed a lot of folks that has really goofed the info telling them that isn't right. I also think if you put it online you should at least give the person credit for giving you the info and then look for other info to prove that what you are posting is true beyond a shadow of doubt, and if there is doubt then say so. I don't want to go to ancestry or roots web and find a screwed up mess. I am also researching my Mom's side of the family and a lady sent me her file. Would you believe that she had taken her info from a book, word by word not asking permission. Are telling where the info came from, no verified info. No census, just a book word by word. Mr. Sutton died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, in Albuquerque. He was born Aug. 16, 1923, in Coleman, Texas. Mr. Sutton was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps. He married Ruth Elizabeth Humphrey in 1955. He was a graduate of Texas Tech University in 1949 and a long-time resident of Lubbock, Texas. He was a retired insurance salesman and earned numerous distinctions in his career, including his designation as a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table and life member of the Texas Leaders Round Table. He was a member of the Red Raider Club, associated with Texas Tech University, and was a member of Gateway Church of Christ in Ruidoso. He moved to Ruidoso from Lubbock in 1998. Has anyone ever done research regarding the British v. Dutch in the New Netherlands during the 1700's? My reasons: Cornelius Sutton, Sr. was married to Elizabeth Applegate...Elizabeth was of english descent and Cornelius of mixed english/dutch descent. History shows Cornelius removing himself from New Jersey during the late 1700's to Ohio, then West Virginia. From what I have read Elizabeth Applegate hadn't even passed away when Cornelius married Elizabeth Davis, widow of Ephriam Maxson. I cannot find proof of divorcement........... Could this have been why history shows him "running" to Ohio/West Virginia during an aggressive time in history while Elizabeth Applegate remained in the northern area of America, i.e., New Jersey-Pennsylvania? I have read accounts where Elizabeth Applegate (Betsy Sutton) may have been of indian descent and Cornelius left New Jersey for fear of his life during the historical time of the "Trail of Tears", but research just doesn't prove this theory. I don't believe Betsy Sutton and Elizabeth Applegate were the same person...however, there was a war going on at this time involving the Dutch and the British. I am looking for info on James Russell (Indian Jim) Sutton born march 7, 1833 in MO. He had a sister named Elizabeth Sutton who married George Embry. Their parents were John C. Sutton and Patty Pecks. I also have some reference to John C. being married to a woman named Martha. If anyone can help me sort this out, I will be eternally grateful.
