Looking down the list I also see a Daniell Sutton who arrived on the same ship, 1687. Looking at the index of names in the book, there was John Sutton who was a land owner in 1774. Gerri Ann
I really sent the James Sutton message in case someone was looking for their ancestor when he first arrived in this country aboard the ship "The Margaret" on the Delaware River. I recently purchased the book "History of Chester Co and Biographical Sketches by James Futhey and Gilbert Cope, pub. 1881. I look for Suttons on any written page even though I got the book for researching the Hall family. Chester Co. was mostly Quaker being part of the William Penn group originally. However there were also lots of Swedes and Germans there also. This area is across the river from New Castle Co DE. Since I can't document my Suttons any earlier than 1850 Alamance NC this doesn't shed much light for me but most folks on the list have made better progress so maybe someone can use it. Gerri Ann
I dont have the information on your SUTTON family, but according to the 1880 census he, and possibly a brother living next door, Josiah Sutton, who was 1 yr different in age were both born in KY as were both of their parents. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, July 17, 2004 8:58 AM Subject: [SUTTON] re: James H. His wife was Sarah Easterwood born 1807 GA. His children were all born in TN. In 1850 Sarah and the children were in Yalabusha Co. MS. The children were (1). Nancy Elizabeth born 1828 married Francis Johnson in Sunflower Co. MS and was stepmother to Ellen Johnson who married her brother Jesse Sutton, her children were Mary L., Nick, Samuel W., Pattie Lee, unnamed, Annie Ola and Joseph. (3) John Sutton (I am not positive he is of this family) He is in the 1850 census for Yalabusa Co. as 21 years old born in TN working on a riverboat. (4). Sarah Ann born 1830 married John Eidom 9 Nov 1852 Yalabusa Co. MS. Was in Johnson Co TX 1860 and in Erath and Palo Pinta Co during 1860s. She was a widow in Sunflower Co. He drowned in a riverboat accident 1 Jan 1875. His children were Sarah L., Martha, John Franklyn, James Lewis, Elizabeth, and Audie. John and James were President Teddy Roosevelts guide on the bear hunt where he turned the bear loose and they named the Teddy bear after him. Some of this family were still in Sunflower Co in the 1940s. I have not been able to find any of them. _________________________________________________________________ Is your PC infected? Does anyone have information about James Sutton who arrived in Chester Co. PA aboard "The Margaret", 11, 28, 1687, John Bowman Commander? Thanks, Gerri Ann
I am still looking for the parents of Richard F. Sutton born 1756 in Lunenburg County, Virginia. Married Margaret Glass 1789 in PA. Died and is buried in Dry Fork, near Renwick, Kentucky on 12-23-1837. I have his pension records and am willing to share and share alike. I am a direct descendant and have most everything from him down. Raleigh Sutton [email protected] Family isn't just a thing, it's the only thing
I am looking for information on Charles Leighton Sutton, my gggf. He was born about 1847 in the Philadelphia, Pa. area. His children include Adam, William, Leighton. Donald, May and Augustus. Can anyone help? Don Sutton [email protected]
My father, Neville Sutton (family came from GA, to AL, to AR, then to OK) lived to 94, his 3 sisters lived to 90,92, & 97. The brothers lived to their 70's and 80's, so their is a pocket of good genes somewhere! Layton Sutton
It's interesting that you mention this. There is a weird trend in my Sutton family in Indiana. All the men die when they are 80 years old. My grandfather died 5 years ago at the age of 80, his father died in the 1970's at the age of 80, his father died of typhoid fever when he was only 38 so he is an exception (but his widow died at the age of 80, she was a Sutton by marriage), and then his father (Ari, anyone else connected to him?) died in 1906 at the age of 80. My grandpa and his father both died from complications of stroke and I don't know about my grandpa's great grandfather who died at 80 in 1906, I don't think his cause of death was recorded. > Date: Tue, 13 Jul 2004 13:23:59 -0700 > From: Caroline <[email protected]> > To: [email protected] > Subject: survivorship--Sutton longevity > > Having researched the Sutton ancestry for years, > following > the lines from Plymouth 1637, longevity is a > prominent gene, > contradictory to cancer. Having researched the Sutton ancestry for years, following the lines from Plymouth 1637, longevity is a prominent gene, contradictory to cancer. Perhaps the cancer came in from a later maternal line. For example: "Revolutionary Capt. Uriah Sutton was blind for the last [30 or 40] of his 99 years." My line: (related to but not descended from Uriah) Benjamin Sutton (1801-1891) My uncles lived well into their 80's. (They had cataracts!) And, as I read the modern obituaries posted by Danny, often Suttons live into their 80's.

I just started to research again. 2001 was heartbreaking with 9/11 and we had a shooting incident at our school. Then I lost interest. But I've had responses from a cousin and someone else that I'm not sure how they are related. Of course they are old correspondence and I don't know if then are even still reading the boards. I have made some progress thanks to your initial assistance. I know that Frederick Sutton Sr. was the son of Joseph Sutton and Elizabeth Cluff. Frederick was born in England but Elizabeth is of Irish decent. I'm still working on finding Fredericks wife, Adelaide. How are you doing? Good to hear from you, Sue
