Belinda, You have on your web site, Thomas Sutton son of Thomas and Elizabeth Luerton Born in 1723 and dying in 1779. Then in the next generation he is born in 1759 and dyed in 1840. That guyisn't the son of Thomas and Elizabeth. Their son Thomas died in 1779 and his will was probated in Bertie County. The last that I heard, the Sutton Searchers newsletter had been discontinued several years ago at least. I believe at the time they said it was either due to illness in the family or personal reasons. Kathy

Thomas had at least one brother Bailey Sutton (may be actually John Bailey but no one has found that yet). Most of this can be found on www.gencircles.com. Hope this helps. Note: My line goes thru Thomas's brother Bailey.

What is the time frame of James Wiley Sutton. The name of Henry Wiley Sutton shows up in the genealogy of my family around 1817 I believe. Also Penniah Sutton married Henry Hamilton. Penniah and Henry Wiley were sister and brother, the children of John Sutton and Mary Hay. Does any of this seem like a possible connection. John Sutton and Mary Hay were married in Wilkes County Ga. My ancestor William was a brother to Henry Wiley and Penniah. William and Penniah ended up in North Louisiana. Billie Sutton Smith
Betty, if you will let me know who you are looking for and a little about them I will look thru the Sutton newsletters and see if I can find anything about them. I was never able to find anything about my Sutton family, but maybe there is something about yours. Hi fellow Suttons I recall seeing a posting recently about a person with the surname of Sutton who died in an accident involving lifting a horse or something similar. Is that a figment of my imagination or was there something like that posted online? It is similar to a legend in my family about an ancestor so I wanted to know more. Thanks. Charyn Sutton
All, I am currently out of the country but will provide whatever assistance I can in the way of providing information or a copy of the Sutton Searchers newsletters. I believe I have all the copies of the newsletters printed to date. Please send me an email after 8 Oct and I'll assist anyway possible. In their household shown in the 1860 census (Renssalaer, Jasper Co., Indiana), there is a Mattie Sutton, 21, teacher, born in Indiana. Would you hazard a guess as to where Keziah might fit with Jeniah's clan? Thanks! Richard Cochran Big Rapids, Michigan
I may have missed a message that relates to the message concerning Higginbotham. My ancestor William Sutton married Sarah Higginbotham. They lived in Union Parish Louisiana near Farmerville. William Sutton was the father of Joseph Sutton whose son Charlie Sutton and Charlie was my grandfather. William Sutton was the son of John Sutton and Mary Hay. John Sutton and Mary Hay were married in Wilkes County Ga. The Higginbotham family was also in that area of Ga. during that time. The father of John Sutton was William Sutton who was married to Elizabeth Jackson. William died about 1789 in Warren County NC. The father of William was Moses Sutton who apparently was married more than once, first wife uncertain but perhaps Dollie Palmer and second wife was Elizabeth Pittman and third was Caty Pittman. This Moses had sons John, James, William, Thomas and Richard. I have the ancestry on Moses as Lazarus Sutton and then Richard Sutton who died in 1702 in Northumberland Va. If anyone feels they connect to this info, I would love to compare notes. Billie Sutton Smith
There were a lot of Higginbotham's around Bryceland in N. Louisiana where I came from. In fact I went to school with one. My Sutton's entered Louisiana from Mississippi around the 1840's. My great, great grandfather Thomas Sutton from around Fayette Mississippi died of a fever in 1830, leaving three sons John, my great grandfather, his brother Thomas later killed in battle of Mansfield in Civil War, and Stephen who evidently died before coming to Louisiana. My grandfather was named after that Stephen. Charles Irvin or Irving Sutton
