    3. Published in the Cincinnati, OH - Enquirer and Post August 21, 2004 Sutton Landry, 55, of NKU Rebecca Goodman Enquirer staff writer He was director of Small Business Development Center Lives remembered ANDERSON TWP. - Sutton Landry, director of the Small Business Development Center at Northern Kentucky University for 25 years, died Tuesday of prostate cancer at Mercy Anderson Hospital. He was 55. Mr. Landry designed and presented small business training programs and helped hundreds of people start and grow small businesses. During his tenure, he helped them secure more than $75 million in financing for their business ventures. "Fifteen years ago I consulted Sutton with the start of Campus Book & Supply," said David Kline, the store's owner, in a letter to Mr. Landry's family. "It is a very successful business these days. Sutton was always there when I needed advice. He helped many businesses get started and kept them going. He was a good friend - not only to me but to many, many business people in the Northern Kentucky area. He will always be part of Campus Book & Supply." Last October the development center presented Mr. Landry with its Kentucky State Star Award at the Association of Small Business Development Centers conference in San Diego, Calif. A native of Boston, he also lived in Davis, Calif., before attending Miami University in 1967. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Miami in 1970, then was drafted into the Army. After his hitch, he returned to Miami, where he received a master's degree in English literature in 1975. From there he went to the University of Cincinnati College of Business Administration, receiving an MBA in finance in 1977. Mr. Landry was campaign manager for Lou Schroeder when she ran against Tom Kindness in the old Eighth Congressional District in 1978, according to his wife, Gloria. His next position was as vice president of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, responsible for business retention and development. Mr. Landry was active in civic events in Hamilton, including the Antique Car Parade and Fort Hamilton Days. He was the founding director of the Family Business Center at NKU and a member of Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, serving on local and regional boards. Mr. Landry was a business columnist for the Cincinnati Post and the Cincinnati Business Courier and an alumnus of Leadership Northern Kentucky. He was named Economic Development Professional of the Year by the Northern Kentucky Area Development District in 1996. "He was just an extremely caring, nurturing individual," his wife said. "He enjoyed music. He enjoyed his family. He enjoyed teaching. He thoroughly enjoyed his work." In addition to his wife of 34 years, survivors include his mother, Elaine of Kent, Ohio; a son, Adam of Anderson Township, and four brothers, Doug of Stow, Ohio, Philip of Kent, John of Lexington and Sam of Poland, Ohio. 3. Published in the Cincinnati, OH - Enquirer and Post 2004-8-5 Rev. James Sutton was foster parent to 148 children Rebecca Goodman Enquirer staff writer He founded, rebuilt many churches Lives remembered GOSHEN - The Rev. James A. Sutton, the associate pastor of McKelvey Road Baptist Church in West Chester Township who was foster parent to 148 children, died July 13 of cancer at Hospice of Cincinnati. He was 82. He had lived in Westwood before moving into his daughter's home in Goshen seven months ago. A Southern Baptist pastor for more than 50 years, the Rev. Mr. Sutton's forte was founding churches or stepping in to rebuild an existing congregation in need. He founded the Faith Baptist Church in Mount Healthy in 1956 and was founding pastor of Pisgah Heights Baptist Church (now called Liberty Heights Church) in West Chester Township in 1961. He also served as pastor of New Bethel Baptist Church in Norwood, First Baptist Church of Silverton, Delhi Hills Baptist Church, and New Life Baptist Church and Northern Hills Baptist Church, which merged to become McKelvey Road Baptist Church. He and his wife of 55 years, Barbara R. Zimmerman Sutton, who died in 1999, provided a home for 148 children over a 15-year period in the 1960s and 1970s. "It was interesting," said his daughter Faith Finkes of West Chester Township. "I came home from school one time and we had four bassinets in the dining room." Some of the children were there for hours, others for much longer, but "each child became a member of the family as if they had been born into it. We took them on vacation - just did everything with them," she said. The Rev. Mr. Sutton graduated from Williamsburg (Ky.) High School in 1939 and preached his first sermon at age 19 at the Main Street Baptist Church in Williamsburg. He majored in history and religion at Cumberland College, graduating in 1941. The following year, he attended Eastern State Teachers College (now Eastern Kentucky University) and taught in the Whitley County, Ky., schools for four years before moving to Cincinnati in 1948. That year, he went to work as a guard on the gate at the Hilton Davis Chemical Co. in Cincinnati while studying chemistry at the University of Cincinnati. He moved up to foreman and laboratory supervisor before becoming general plant manager in Greenville, S.C., in 1975. He returned to Cincinnati in 1981 and retired from Hilton Davis a few years later. In addition to his daughter Faith, survivors include: another daughter, Donna Amrein of Goshen; two sons, James Jr. of Lexington and Darrell of Cheviot; a sister, Frances Bailey of Ann Arbor, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Services have been held. Burial was at Crown Hill Memorial Park in Colerain Township. Memorials: Hospice of Cincinnati, P.O. Box 710784, Cincinnati 45271-0784. Danny Clemmer Clemmer.org

    3. Might I suggest gathering them all together as was suggested in earlier message. Listing each State: Alaska Alabama Arizona etc......... Under each state, List Sutton name and the Date of Death: Missouri Sutton, Joseph Died: 02 May, 1872 Sutton, John Died: 1880 Sutton, Lewis Died: 13 July, 1917 Then if a person wants to see an Obit for any particular person, he/she can email and ask for it. This would still go across the list, but could all be done on one listing, each day, instead of 15 different listings ever five minutes. Just a suggestion. I myself, have many Sutton family members, but hate having to go through each and every Sutton that is listed (the way that it is being done) just to check and see if any of them belong to me. I am sure I have probably missed some. A wonderful job of listing each of these obits is being done, and I wish to Thank You, for listing these, but seems like a lot of work the way it is being done on your part. Joyce

    3. Published in the San Francisco, CA - Chronicle August 28, 2004 SUTTON, Jon Beloved husband, father, teacher and friend, passed away quietly at home in Eugene, Oregon on August 19, 2004 after a long struggle with lung disease at the age of 76. He was a long time resident of the city of San Francisco and Marin County. He graduated from Galileo High School in 1947. As a young man, he supported himself by working at many San Francisco landmark hotels. Jon served his country during the Korean War as an army photographer. Jon taught art and music at the Marin Country Day School and Marin Academy in the late 1960's. He inspired students with his passion for music. A gifted composer, artist and musician, Jon was a modern renaissance man. He composed numerous orchestral works, ballets and several musical comedies. Jon studied and played the trumpet for sixteen years. He wrote most of his music on his mother's old upright piano, but never considered himself a pianist. As an artist Jon developed a unique form of tapestry making, several of these works still grace churches and private collections in Marin County. He painted in both oil and watercolor. Formally trained as a lithographer, he used silk-screen printing to create cards, posters and t-shirts for social causes. Jon was also a skilled craftsman and invented a line of collapsible furniture. Jon is survived by his wife of nearly thirty years, Ella Evers-Meinardi of Eugene, OR. Jon was very proud of his two step-children; Dr. David Evers of Amsterdam and Fleur Romagosa, RN of Novato, California.
